It's not a true Mario game, as has already been pointed out. Not only does it lack signature Mario gameplay and it wasn't put together by the development team that has done every other Mario game, it was a cheap hack-job by Nintendo to make a new Mario sequel for Americans. Thankfully though, its a really good (and inventive) platform game that I would enjoy with or without the Mario characters dubbed in! Highly recommended for fans of the jump'n'run genre, because it offers refined classic gameplay and refreshing new elements.
