Ninja Gaiden III is by far the best of the trilogy. It remains my favorite of the series on the NES, even after trying out the first two.
The graphics and music are both very good, the levels brim with colour and vary greatly from act to act. This game really shows what a talented team could make the NES do.
The enemy balance is also much better in this one, with the levels getting progressively harder untill the big finale. You WILL need to practice at this game to finish it without cheating as it quite hard, however that's always been part of the fun of the series and the ending is worth it.
Lastly the plot is pretty good, as much as you can decipher from the cutscenes which advance it in-between levels. The cutscenes themselves are quite better than the former games' and flow along much smoother as well.
Anyways, this game is a must-have for and NES owner!
