Megaman 5 NES Review - That one even blasts MM4

by Electrocut on Thursday, May 4, 2006
While playing MM4 i never caught the thought that this could be done better. But with MM5 Capcom brought on that magic.

From one Mega Man Adventure to the next i can see efforts.
MM1 - the classic that started it all and even today fun to play, nice graphics to look at and fine tunes to listen to.
MM2 - that falls out (read more on that in my review for it)
MM3 - new friend of Mega Man, Rush in action. Mega Man gets new ability that lets him slide. Graphic and music getting better, more stages to play through.
MM4 - additional to Rush two more items, the new Mega Buster Upgrade and another flair to the game (another scientist). Again better graphics. A bit more storyline.

And than..... it was light.
Now onto the stuff.

Graphic:
Weeeeeeh.....i like already the graphic of MM4 a lot, so what to say here?
Perfect. The graphical elements are chosen well again. Even more shiny and sparkling as in Mega Man 4, even more detailed.
Again the fore- and backgrounds stickin well together that each stage brings along it's own flair in a positiv way. All seems even more colorful as before.
And hey.....isn't that a remake of Gemini Man's crystal cavern - yeah it is, more shiny and sparkling as before ;). That time Capcom brought in something that is rarely seen on the NES - multilayered paralaxscrolling, not in all stages but a few where it makes sense. As i player Mega Man 5 for the first time, i thought i was outta space - common paralaxscrolling, a magic that only 16-bit-system-owners where addicted - till MM5 came out.
With Mega Man 5, Capcom brought out a graphical masterpiece (not only within the Mega Man Series).
10/10

Sound:
The soundeffects were changed partially - for example if you shoot an enemiy with a fully loaded plasmablast, and many more.
This takes a part in bringing along again a different feel to the game as it was in the prequels. Those FX are fittin great.
The Style of Music has been changed as well, to help bringing along another feel (additional with the sound-FX) to the game.
The tunes ,as right as they are composed, seems more calming and dreamy, but always fittin the mood of each stage perfect. Just great, another Mega Man Game, another feel.
Just dive in and enjoy.
10/10

Gameplay:
That time we have lesser items as in MM4. Rush Jet right there as in MM4, Rush Coil - they changed the function a bit for making it easier to control where to jump, and finally the Super Arrow - in it's functionallity it comes close to the very early Magnet Beam from MM1, i can build up a stairway or just cross over large pits and obstacles. The fully charged Mega Buster Shot is not as small as in MM4, so hitting enemies is easier in here - useful blast that is. Ho, there is Beat, a new friend to Mega Man. He can easily take out enemies while i keep tracking past difficult passages without sorrow.
With that said, the gameplay rocks.
10/10

Difficulty:
It's on the same level as the difficulty in MM4.

Once again Capcom strikes with a cute little plot. Protoman seems to be running wild and terrorising mankind. Once again for the time it came out the player didn't know right from the start that Wily was once again behind the event. The player had to play through the game to get it.

"Mega Man 5" deserves a shiny and sparkling 10/10

I found out, there seem to be a lot of clueless people out there. Some still don't know that the true Proto Man isn't evil. But normally one walkthrough should make this clear ;).
This one and my other three MM-Games are gettin played more often than - lets say, modern games.
Yeah right, MM1,3,4 & 5 are even today unbeatable 1st-place-games - followed by a few 16-bit sweeties on the second place.
