Dragon Warrior NES Review - great RPG, but where's the Toriyama art?

Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest is a good RPG series, but I have to wonder why Nintendo decided to redo the box art and manual with uninteresting illustrations.

The character design (and original box design) was by Akira Toriyama, the author of Dragonball. Although Toriyama was unknown in North America back then, his drawing style is far more pleasant to look at than whoever who ended up doing the DW American box.

And what about the game? Well, it's one of the 2 standard knight-and-magic CRPGs that started it all (the other being Final Fantasy, of course). It's repetitive at times (are these colorful drops the cousins of the chocolate chip enemies in Zelda?), but it's still fun to play, if only to see how it evolved in its sequels.
