Donkey Kong Jr. was a perfect sequel - it wasn't a boring rehash of the original Donkey Kong, but it wasn't a total departure. Donkey Kong 3, on the other hand, is a total departure. It's not a platform game, it's a Galaxian-style shooter. It doesn't even have Mario in it, and Donkey Kong isn't using barrels or fireballs, he's using bugs! This seems like an attempt to cash in on the Donkey Kong name rather than a creative leap for the series. Nevertheless, it's somewhat enjoyable for a bit, especially if your a fan of old-fashioned shooting games, but it gets kind of old fast and doesn't hold a candle to Galaga.
