Super Famicom Games

In SNES

I've had a chance to play some translated versions of some of the Super Famicom games in NES ROM form, and I'm wondering if any of you fellow SNES people have any foreign faves.

In my opinion, the biggest loss in this respect to the North American market is Secret of Mana 2. That game is quite good and I'm disappointed that it wasn't released for the SNES.

I think the worst foreign game I played was Tales of Phantasia - the random enemy battles killed it (way too rediculous).

Lastly, the funnies game has to be Death Brade, crazy mutant wrestling at its peak.

Anyone else around here have any Super Famicom favourites?

I don't see why everyone makes such a huge issue about random battles... pretty much EVERY RPG for the past 20 years has had random battles, and everyone loves 'em.

Sure, they're annoying, but I didn't find Tales of Phantasia to be much different than any of the SNES Final Fantasy games in terms of encounter rate. At least it has real-time combat...

Anyway, on topic, I wish we had gotten Star Ocean released in North America. I haven't been able to spend a lot of time with it on the emulator, just because I don't like playing games through emulation on the PC. but I LOVE Star Ocean: The Second Story, Probably my all time favorite "traditional" RPG.

I'm praying we see some form of it on the Wii Virtual Console.

I'm collecting Super Famicom.

There are lots of great games not rerleased in the US.

Secret of Mana 2 is one of them.
Or the NES ROMancing Saga trilogy.
Bahamut Lagoon, Dragon Quest V and VI are other RPGs you should try.

If you like puzzle games, be sure to check "Mario's Super Picross".

If you have any questions about Japanese games, feel free to ask any time.

P.S.: I like random battles.

I just recently got into Treasure Hunter G, since I found a fan translated NES ROM. I haven't had a chance to get very deep into it, but it seems good so far. The battles are sort of like they are in Final Fantasy Tactics, what with the grid and the turns. If you haven't checked it out yet, I'd suggest it.

Now that you mention it, I was disappointed that not a single Dragon Quest game is available for the SNES.

Regarding Tales of Phantasia, random enemy battles are fine, but not every other step. The mere frequency made it so slow in the sense that it made travelling take so long.

I'm with you on that. TOO MUCH of random battles can kill a game.
