Sega Mega Drive games Must haves.
Ok so I am starting to collect Sega Mega Drive stuff....What are some good common games besides the Sonic seris?
Don't know about common, but my absolute favorites are Herzog Zwei ( go wrong with either Earthworm Jim game.
I definitely back NES-Luke up on Gunstar Heroes. I played that on the emulator and it is AWESOME!!
All of the sudden you're european?
Mick 'n Mack: Global Gladiators
This game is REALLY good. I played it a while back. The action never stops and the graphics are fantastic.
How about Kid Chameleon i think it has like 100+ levels in the game.
Whats Wrong with you Guys,
Contra Hard Corps!
now im not listing ones already listed
Land Stalker
all i can think of right now.
Another most excellent game.
Also a must have, though very, very hard.

i just recently got med. ending with sheena
with brownies now ive said this a million times, i didn't use a continue, and got Med. and/or good ending, i also got the Battle arena Ending,
brownie is a cheap little bastard, but fun to use, the reason i know i didnt use the continue, i still had the bomb from the first level, when i got to the final boss, and that and the bomb from the junkyard saved my life.
Hard Corps... forgot about that. Damn, what wrong with me?
Lion King is a must.
Aladdin - it's way better than the SNES version
Road Rash II
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
X-Men 2 - better than the first one
Sonic 3D Blast
any other Sonic game
Do NOT get that on the Genesis. get the Saturn version.
Don't have a Saturn?, wait for one. The Genesis version is terrible, while the Saturn has beautiful music, MUCH deeper colours, it's just so much better.
Streets of Rage and try Shove It! The Warehouse Game, it's a good puzzle game.

well i like the Genesis version anyhow....
Roth will debate this, but I think the first two Streets of Rage games suck. The third however, is excellent.
Deep adventure game from a 3-quarters perspective (like 'Super Mario RPG' or '
Solstice'). It has (dare I say it) "
Zelda style" game play but with a healthy dose of platform jumping. The dialog is hilarious and very well written. Sometimes I think of this as being the single greatest game ever made. It's definitely my top choice for the Sega Genesis.
Sega's top RPG. Much like '
Dragon Warrior' in terms of battles but with much more depth. The story is excellent. I strongly suggest playing through the first two games in the series though before this one, because 'PS4' is a continuation of the original story. It's still a great starter game for anyone who's interested in the amazing Phantasy Star saga.
Two separate carts, but put them together to form the finest and most complete Sonic side-scroller you'll ever play.
Overhead scrolling shooter. Very challenging but playable. Some of the best graphics and music of the early Genesis era. The 3-D effect of the of the deep lava trench on stage 3 still looks amazing even today.
Turn-based strategy game with real-time battles. Pilot a team of different space crafts through a very cool looking rotating star field, colonizing planets and gathering resources to build even more
POWerful ships. Play as the good guys or the bad guys (it's your choice).
Still the best console beat-em-up I've ever played. Similiar to 'Final Fight' but bigger, longer, and with more characters and a better variety of fighting techniques.
Side-scrolling adventure. Should definitely appeal to the '
Zelda' fans (but plays more like '
Metroid').
I guess this game is okay.
I don't think anyone has mentioned Golden Axe yet. I like it anyway.
Well, it's taken me a while to work up the courage to admit this, but...
I love Mutant League Hockey. Kill me now...

You want a sucky brawler, just try CombatTribes...
Here are some that may or may not have been listed
NHL Hockey '94 and/or '95 (many prefer '94, but I prefer '95 because of season mode)
Strider
Castlevania Bloodlines
Revenge of Shinobi
Pirates! Gold
Beyond Oasis (kinda short, but
Zelda-ish)
Rocket Knight Adventures
Castle of Illusion (starring Mickey Mouse)
World of Illusion (starring Mickey and Donald)
Splatterhouse 2 and 3 are also some great games.
good games.
As far as brawlers go, they're incredible, especially since they're very story-driven. The music was
POWerful, eerie, and fit perfectly.
However, a lot of brawler fans I know disliked the sometimes cheap and very punishing difficulty levels.

i have all of these except the hockey ones and Pirates!
I also liked MERCS a good bit. If you like Ikari Warriors you would probably like MERCS.
Shinobi III Return of the Ninja Master is a must play!!!!!!
And also Comix Zone is a great game to play as well and has great music.
yeah mercs is an official sequel of
Commando for NES, by Capcom.

Never knew that. Makes sense though.
This thread has made me break out the Genesis the last couple of nights.
No one's mentioned the Strike series. Those games were just good fun.
However, I would only recommend Desert and Urban Strike. Jungle Strike can kiss my ass. "Find the Terrorists"... stupid Washington DC.
Do NOT get that on the Genesis. get the Saturn version.

I beat the Genesis verison before. What are the Bonus Stages like on the Saturn version?

im not sure i only tested it to see if it worked, i did notice the music sounds different.
I gave the Golden AXE series a try, and like most others I have to say, they are pretty good.
Similar opinion also holds for GUNSTAR HEROES.
I alos gave the Road Rash series a try, but I have to say they suck. Maybe this is because I played the PC version first, so I am now unable to develop a liking for the Genesis series.

Road Rash is cool and all...but its a game where I wouldnt feel like sitting and completeting and getting all the motorcycles and stuff like that.
Anybody remember Skitchin' it was alot like Road Rash except you were on Roller Skates.
Ha! You're damn right I remember Skitchin'... I own it The music in that game is sweeter than sweet. That's one of my most played Genny carts that I have. Definitely a fun game!
Cool Spot is also another fantastic game Great Graphics and Solid Gameplay
You know, why exactly do people remember Ikari Warriors? As far as I can tell, I'm the only person who despises the series, so it must have some pretty damn redeemable qualities...
Don't worry, I also despise Ikari Warriors. The only one that was worth anything was Ikari III. That was a cool game. The other two are absolutely awful, glitch-ridden carts.
Thank the Lord, I'm not alone...
i wanted to play an IKARI like Game, i'd play
Commando, or Mercs, because mercs is the Sequal.
I didn't read all the games that were mentioned here, but the reasons I bought a Genesis way back when (before Sonic..) were..
Altered Beast
Gouls 'n' Ghosts
Golden Axe
After Burner 2
Strider
Space Harrier 2
Air Buster
Shadow Dancer
Outrun
Toe Jam & Earl
Castle of Illusion
Revenge of Shinobi
Thunder Force 2
Gairies
......first generation Genesis titles are my favorite, and besides include some of the best games of Sega's prime in arcades...get these first and then you could start collecting...
