Sega Genesis model 1 help.
So I turn my Sega Genesis Model 1 on and all I can see is black and white lines going up and down the screen. So I tryed some other games and the same thing! what should I do?

Use A/V Cables.
Model 1 did not have A/V outputs.
Only model 2 and 3 do.
airfiggy, make sure your channel is set to 3 on the console, and if it is, try 4.

Well, the AV cable for the Genesis 1 is stupidly hard to find, but what you can do if you have some basic soldering skills is hack an AT keyboard extension cable to work as your AV cable. That's what I've done to mine for the time being. Until I can get the components rounded up for my s-video mod.

I'm fairly sure that that you only need three of those pins, audio, video, and ground.
But I'm guessing here.
I'm fairly confident but Sega overloaded the pinout here with the 8 pin DIN connector because it would be fairly simple to make the jump to a component connection through use of the RGB pins.. Although again, I say, I know nothing about video mods. I haven't done them before.

You do only need Audio, Video, and Ground for standard composite output. and it just so happens that those three pins happen to fall onto three of the pins that the AT keyboard cable uses.
As for the component output... component isn't just pure RGB, even though the cables are coloured to leade you to think that it is. while it is possible to turn those RGB lines into component, you'd also need a video encoder chip, and possibly a sync seperator.
As I posted in my other thread, I am working on an S-video mod for the Genesis, which I will post a nice guide on when I get all the components and get it finished up.
