The Future of Nesfiles.
As some may think Nesfiles is pretty slow lately. Do you think Nesfiles will be around in say one year from now? What do you think the admins and mods could do to improve Nesfiles? Share your thoughts here.
I can only speak for me, but I like the pace it's going right now. There are a couple of new posts each time I visit, so I can't complain.
I started the Game of the Week some months before, which some people are interested in.
I'm not sure what else one could do...
Maybe it's a problem that the center of this site, the NES, is old and practically everything is said already. Not many news for this system any more. We can only talk of our memories and maybe find games we haven't played yet and then talk about that.
I guess I will be around as long as I can access the NES files.
As long as the site owner doesn't delete the forums I'll be here I guess.
And I'd be happy if all of the regulars would stop by for a chat from time to time.
Well, I'm starting to go on here again. The crap that happened with NES Channel left a bad taste in my mouth for NES forums. NES Files is OK.
What happened on NES Channel? If you don't mind, please tell...
Well, this all happened back in, I think it was 2005. Basically, NES Channel was a site that hosted sites like NES Alternative, NES Life, Nintendo Intensity (Roth's old site), NES Land, and NES Nation at different times.
Anyways, their forum was hacked by some guy who ever that was. Everything we did for the entire 6 or 8 months was erased which pissed me off. They made another forum which would last probably half as long and that was hacked by SlayerX. One day back in the spring of 2005, I got this wicked message:
The following is an email sent to you by an administrator of "NES Channel Forums". If this message is spam, contains abusive or other comments you find offensive please contact the webmaster of the board at the following address: Include this full email (particularly the headers). Message sent to you follows:Â
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Â
First, the NES Forums are dead. Second, now channel is dead. Thirdly, making the fucking scene dead. And one more time:
FUCK ALL YOU ALL. -SlayerX
Contains "abusive comments" lol. Anyways, after that, all of NES Channel went to. This is old stuff though.
SlayerX and c8b were always dicks, though.
That's really weird. Why do people have to be so stupid?
NES Scene!
Yes, the NES Scene indeed. All I know is the NES Scene, the REAL NES scene will never die, and that's the love we have for the NES... that's the real "scene". lol sounds kinda corny, but its true. They could never spam that.
Excuse an ignorant outsider in this matter, for interfering in your conversation, but I have some questions about this that I would hope that some of you could answer.
First off, why does this SlayerX want to end NES forums, really?
Second off, what is this "NES Scene", I remember beeing explained what it was, but I didn't quite catch it...
Because he is a douche. And doesn't care about anyone else. I post at more then one Nes forum. I am must active here at Nesfiles. But I am glad both Nesfiles and Nesforums.Net are both doing very well.
Dude, your posts are getting harder and harder to understand.
I am not the best at grammer, I'm sure there is lots more there to correct, but that is still more legible than the first. Just spell a little better. Not trying to be a "douche" just giving a heads up.
Just giving a heads up, don't projectile diarrhea on other people's English if you can't spell yourself! Nobody ever seems to get that one right, which is really ironic because they only use it when making fun of others ability to construct sentences.
Right, not everybody have perfect grammar here, but I find most/all of it understandable. Nevertheless, I would like to know what this "NES Scene" is now. The only thing I know so far is that SlayerX is an asshole.
It was what people called the online NES community ten years ago. That's the short of it.
So to understand...
Well, that makes sense to me.
Thanks!
Just for the record, SlayerX is c8b.
What?! I thought they were two different persons...
Because when SlayerX added me to MSN Messenger awhile ago. (Back in May 2006), I had no clue why he added me anyways he told me he was c8b. Maybe he was joking I dunno.
Haha yeah, you got me there. However, you knew what I meant right away... You didn't have to go back and read it three times just to figure out what the hell I said. Big difference.
Very true my good man.
And I thought that cracked8ball was a seperate entity from SlayerX, I think c8b is from nova scotia and slayerx from manitoba.
Ok good, I guess SlayerX was just messing with me. I wonder what ever happend to them? I wonder if they changed there ways..
I'd have to say.... doubtful.
Probably has a bigger bone to pick somewhere else than here.
I always thought slayerX was from Ontario? Anyway, I found this a while ago:
NES Scene
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Jump to: navigation, search
The NES Scene is an internet subculture, that was started in 1995. It was based around the Nintendo Entertainment System that was popular in the 1980's. The scene has had it's ups and downs. But has always been a haven for any geek to talk about collecting, playing, and so on. Some of the earlier websites that were started in 1995-1997, were NES World, NES Nation, and Spazziod's NES Stuff. These older members started their own chatroom on IRC which was called #nes98, which was used for quite some time, until trouble-makers, some people left #nes98 and started another chat called #nesshrine, which was ran by Drk_Warrior, both #nes98 and #nesshrine fought until Drk_Warrior gave up and quit. Which caused a lot of other people to quit and both chats died soon after.
The majority of the remaining people would post on |tsr's NES pit, which would become very popular. Many newbies would start posting there, and it would be hacked sometime in 1998. Two sceners Goat, and Bubblun would create The NES Message Board of NESescity, which became a popular board. Then came a website called NES Fan, the people at NESescity, did not like the people at NES Fan, and fights would break out on both message boards. NES Fan died sometime in 2001. One member of NES Fan message boards, RoyalRanger, would go on to create his own message board, during this time, NESescity was dying down and a few people who didn't have anything against RoyalRanger went to his board. It was spammed many times, and hacked.
RoyalRanger decided to call it quits and left the scene. A website called NES Player had opened and everyone went to their message board. A while later, RoyalRanger decided to bring back his message board because he felt like running it again. It was all good, until a website created by cracked8ball and RandX called NES Watchtower was hacked in to. This made both of them spam RoyalRanger's board because they thought one of them did it. RoyalRanger banned both of them, cracked8ball left for quite some time, and RandX was unbanned a while later. Then another scene named Loogaroo came out as a furry, which resulted in many people making fun of him for it. Many of those people were banned, and later unbanned, which caused Loogaroo to leave. After being hassled by sceners to be more lax, RoyalRanger gave up and shut down his board.
At this time, a good 60% of the scene had left. Either because they had grown up and had jobs and college to attend too or because they were mad at someone. The few that were left, posted mostly on NES Player. In 2003, a forum was started up by Qix called NES Forums. It was ultra popular, but would be shut down because many people got on Qix's nerves. The NES fans had no board to go too for quite some time, until Qix decided to reopen NES Forums a year or so later. cracked8ball, eightbitstereo, and others started NES Alternative, because cracked8ball had been banned from NES Forums. They fought for awhile and cracked8ball was unbanned. The forum was given to cdb900 and then hacked a while later.
In 2005, someone created another NES Forums, but it hasn't been as popular as the other two forums. NES Files also created its own Forum, for younger fans of the NES. The NES Scene may have had its ups and downs but it's still going.
I wasn't aware that it this whole matter had a history this big. I appreciate your post, it was very informative.
Very interesting to see the nicknames of famous NES Sceners, I wasn't aware of that it could be traced, or was known that well to anyone.
I suppose the NES Scene will always live as long as there is still some NES fans out there. People like this SlayerX and c8b is not a very understandable person, from my point of view they love the NES and its games and gadgets, but even so they wish to tear down NES forums where people share their passion. "They were banned, and wanted revenge." you might say, but the question you need to ask yourself is "Why were they banned in the first place?"
So what is the future of the NESFiles? It seems like we pulled through, it hasn't been any attacks for a long time now, except from those annoying SpamBots of course. So it looks like we'll survive, for as long as it lasts.
I remember at least 75% of the names on that list, and half of their sites are gone now I wasn't there in the golden 90s, but I was reading every bit of NES material in 2003, you pick up everything like that.
What the fuck is that shit? There are members of all ages here, just like all NES forums.
Yeah, I'm beginning to pick up quite a few things along the way now. This NES Scene business is really interesting.
What the fuck is that *OMFG I SWEARED*? There are members of all ages here, just like all NES forums.
Yay! We're the younger fans. Considering I'm 27 they guys on other forums must all be grandpas by now.
Yes, the guy who did up this wiki article was really smart.
Indeed, very cool.
could somebody post a real link to that article?
i went to wiki and searched 'nes scene' with no result pointing to that specific article.
I really enjoy this site and the people here. It's not the busiest, but like stated above, there's only so much you can talk about.
As far as I know, it was taken off wikipedia because it's not really... you know... important or something anyone would care about.
And rightly so.
There was a Scene wiki article and I'm on the list of famous people?! Good gravy, when did all this happen? Better yet... where the hell was I when all that nonsense between those two happened? Yes, that deletion by them was a good call for sure; crazy Wikipedia and people who actually cared about that stuff
Claw was one of the authors (OH SNAP!).
Not that I'm suggesting that's the only reason you're on there (oh snap) but it may be a contributing factor because the scene was more about intepersonal poitics and less about contributions (oh snap).
also, it was a year ago. At least. (oh snap).
Its like I said a long time ago, Scenes do not exist, merely the spirit of a common interest forminga collective.
OSG, Congrats for making NES history...
I'm going to be 25 next month.
Make a post on your birthday and you'll get a birthday cake photo from Aaron.
Ok, It is on the 22nd of June.
