Dictator Castro

I would like to know everyone's opinion about this dictator, who established a totalitarian regime in 1959.

I hate him, he has destroyed Cuba.

If you go to Cuba as tourists, then Cuba is a paradise. But the real Cuba is a disgrace, I went to Cuba last year, so I know what I'm talking about.

Yes, because it is unfair. Cubans can't even go into a hotel and spend the night. By the way, there are a lot of Canadian hotels in Cuba.

My opinion is that Bush will probably "liberate" them soon enough anyway, I'm sure they have something in Cuba that he wants...

But to be honest, my (selfish) opinion is that I don't live there, so I can't comment on it. You were there for a week (?) I don't think you had a chance to see what everyday life was like either. Seems to me that Cuba is one of the more functional communist countries.

I was there for 2 weeks, and met a lot of people. They told me that they wish to live in a democratic Cuba. They are tired of the communism, and Castro's stupidity. Communism doesn't work, it ruins everybody's life.

As you can see, Canadian flag, Expos T-Shirt(former Baseball team from Montreal), and finally Toronto. I guess Canadians don't want to see a democratic Cuba because all their businesses may go down the drain.

Yeah, all we do up here in Canada is sell 10 + year old t-shirts. The country would go under without the Cubans who buy them.

Sadly enough, this is probably hitting the nail on the head. I find it amusing that the majority of the US is sending Bushs' approval rating down the drain, and yet the majority voted for him...I think it's fear more than anything else that led to it. Everyone was afraid that another candidate would not be able to handle the mess in Iraq. I'm just glad he can't run again. But if one of his "buddies" wins the next election, I'm considering strongly the option of "becoming a Canadian."

True Communism (in its literal meaning) has never been achieved anywhere, anytime. Hence, you can't say Communism doesn't work, only Fidel's version of it "doesn't work" (your words, not mine)

Also, the Cuba before Fidel took over can't have been any good, as if it were, the revolution would have never happened in the first place.
The previous leader, Batista, had an essentially totalitarian regime, he was basically the US governments bitch. The prisons were full of political opponents, he owned a solid gold telephone, and then he fled the country with most of its money. Also, his own troops despised him so much, they hardly put up a fight with the revolutionaries.
Maybe it's not the best country in the world, but can you really say it was any better before?
Anyway, I don't live there, so I don't really care. Anyway, he's going to die soon.
