Unaltered Star Wars Trilogy coming to DVD.
In a major surprise that will please many fans, Lucasfilm
has announced that the original, unaltered theatrical versions of the
Star Wars Trilogy will be released on DVD this September. For many years now George Lucas had said he would not release the original cuts of the film, but things have clearly changed, with the press release crediting overwhelming fan demand as the reason.
The new box set of the trilogy will contain both the original cut and the 2004 digitally remastered version of
Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The set will be available for a limited time: from September 12th to December 31st.

Nice!
Depending on the price I'll get that perhaps.
Although I own the original trilogy on Laser Disc already.
It was just about time for them to release the unaltered version. I just like those a bit more than the digitally enhanced ones.
I guess all his talk about "I'm not going to re release the originals because the remake is my real vision" was a bunch of bull (so people would buy up his DVD's).
How many versions does one need? (and if you say all I will be giving "the look")
In my opinion you don't need all versions. Just the unaltered ones.
I got that for Christmas 2 years ago...
I have a very simple outlook regarding this situation.
David Prowse, aka Darth Vader.
Yeah, I know, first time I watched the new version I was shocked by that! I guess it's a good idea, figuring that episode 1, 2 and 3 was made a long time after 4, 5 and 6 was originally released.
Ok, I've never watched the "remakes" (mainly because I'm not 8 years old anymore and it doesn't really float my boat anymore). My favorite was Return of the Jedi. My husband just informed me that Georgy boy had changed that ending from the wonderful one I remember. (You know that super happy song into something different). He messed with one of the two things I remembered about that movie (tha,t and the awesome bikini)
I think I need to write him a WTF letter. He ruined what fond memories I did have.
David Prowse, aka Darth Vader.
Um, that's Sebastian Shaw. Although you have a good point there; why couldn't David Prowse be the unmasked Vader?
It's denial.
And a bad memory for names...
Anyway, I'm pretty sure David Prowse was a bit too young for the unmasked role at the time.
