Should I save up for.....

In Off-topic

I'm really looking into buying/saving up for either a dreeamcast or sega saturn. I'm really split between the two, but I'm not so sure which I should get. I'm leaning toward the saturn, but the dreamcast I can find for 10 dollars cheaper...Thanks.

Dreamcast is a vastly superior console versus the Saturn. Unless the Saturn is Super Cheap, get the Dreamcast. Abundance of good games which the Saturn lacks, %100 NES Emulators, plus it's sexy.

Off Topic? How about modern systems or general gaming..

Dreamcast and Saturn aren't modern, and general gaming I though was to talk about gaming and such, not what to buy, so I put it in off topic. Anyways, thanks for your opinion for what to buy .

I say get the Saturn first. It's older so it'll get more expensive quicker. I've seen on that evil Ebay brand new saturns in box for $75 vs $50 for a new in box dreamcast.

But don't look on Ebay until I get mine..... I don't need any more compitition on bidding.

Ha, don't worry, I got to get the cash first, and I'm looking to get mine on half....maybe . (jk)

I'd go for the dreamcast - shenmue, sonic adventure, soul caliber, skies of arcadia....as soon as I get money i'm getting one. Plus, nesterDC (apparently) kick ass.
I would eventually get a saturn too, but the dreamcast is just better.

I say saturn. It's easily modded to play imports (as long as you get the right model). And once you get to play imports you can also play your backed up games, or games you download and burn to cds. You can get some of the greatest shooters. But if you're not a huge fan of shooters go dreamcast, because it needs no modding to play backedup games...if you're into that sort of thing.

For example? Radiant Silvergun and Batsugun are all that pop into my head. The DC has dozens of great shooters though. Ikaruga (which easily outclasses Radiant Silvergun), Mars Matrix, GigaWing 2, Zero Gunner 2, Trizeal, etc... And when you factor in that you need a model 2 saturn to get the mod 'board', and the fact that you'll never find one. AND that the mod board doesn't allow imports, so you'll either need to patch the images before you burn 'em (very unreliable), or buy yet another accessory. Where as the DC is just burn and play, regardless of region or anything. Also, those great shooters are still being released on the DC.

Yeah, there are a lot of caveats to getting the saturn to get going.

Battle Garegga, (Do)DonPachi, 1945s, Soukyugurentai, Darius Gaiden, Layer Section, Raygun..
I don't know much about the DC shooter selections other than I can't seem to find them easily. (although a lot of the saturn games may be more difficult to come by)

As for imports, wihtout mucking up ISOs is to use an action replay. It does the trick enough for myself.

Model 2s aren't tough to find, round button systems are usually model 2. So if you're interested in the saturn and backing up, that you may want to see if it has the oval or the round buttons before you buy.

I'm ebarrased to say that I forgot Do Don Pachi... THAT game is excellent.

Wish I had the s-video cable for my Saturn, and a model 2 saturn so I could mod it, disc swapping REALLY sucks.

Dreamcast...allllll day Dreamcast.

Dreamcast for sure. I just got mine and I've been burning tons of emulators and homebrew VCD and MP3 players, plus if you were to happen to obtain some Dreamcast CD images they burn very easily and play perfectly.

That's the main attraction of the DC as far as I'm concerned. It's the easiest console I've ever seen to burn games for, as well as emulation stuff. Without modification, mind you! Beyond that, the VMU's rock...

That's just my personal opinion, but I'd get the Dreamcast first. As David said And if it's even cheaper than a Saturn, go out and get it!

Thanks for your guys opinion. I was leaning towards the dreamcast now since I'm not good at modding things, and imports are huge to saturns collection, until I found out about a 4-1 cart that lets you play imports. Now I'm still not sure, but I'm pretty sure I'll get a saturn for 2 reasons, they are going to get more price in years to come (like jenni said), and there is a spare saturn and my gamecrazy store, and I'm going to pick it up quite soon. (around the beginning of May)

How much do you have to spend to get it?

I have about 40 dollars to spend, plus my birthday is in 2 weeks so I'll get more money then making me able to atleast get the system, 4in1 cart, controllers (2), Hookups, and a game.

$40 could also get you a DC and a spindle of CD-Rs (spindle of CD-Rs can also be known as pretty much every game worth owning for the DC)

Although I personally wouldn't want to own the "own-worthy" games only on CD-Rs...

Yes, obviously you try to find the legitimate legal copies, I'm just trying to clarify what the better deal is for Malon here, as he seems to be terribly misinformed.

The Saturn sold heaps of units, it won't be any more rare than a SegaCD, or a 32x, or likely even a Genesis for YEARS (Like, 15+)

Get the DC, have some fun, worry about the Saturn later.

I'm not an expert when it comes to Sega, but I'll say you should buy Sega Dreamcast.

you should get dreamcast because it was more popular than the saturn and has sonic adventure. I don't have one myself...then again i don't have any sensable game systems right now. like I have a snes and agmecube but lacking n64 and nes.

If you're getting a Saturn, you should look into getting Clockwork Knight. I really like it, and it's fairly cheap too. I'm not sure if many other people feel the same about it though.

Hey i think you should get the dreamcast i use to have one it was awsome.

Oh yah and if money is a problem my adVice for that is to go and yardsale! I find everything at yardsales down here in raliegh in fact i found my dreamcast at a yardsale for $20 mint in the box with 6 games!

....i sold it on ebay for $40 heheheh

anyways, thats my vote!

Ha! I have a similar fave... Space Hulk. That game is awesome, but no one likes it.

If that's the same Space Hulk that was on the Commodore Amiga... I like it too!

It was the sequel on the 3DO that I played... it's nice to know that not everyone hated the idea!
