Do you buy stuff that you don't need???

In Off-topic

I couldn't find anything on this subject when I searched so I apologize if there already is a topic on this.

Does anyone here have any odd buying/collecting habits? What I mean is do you buy crazy stuff that you really don't need (and video games are a need, so you can't use that one)? Like some people buy Baseball hats, or shoes, or belts, pins.

I have (strange as this may sound) a body wash buying habit (and it's getting out of hand). Today I went in my cupboard and now I have 17 different bottles. I probably could shower 8 times a day for 3 years and still have more than enough of this crap. Yet I keep buying more. Same with shampoo, do I really need 8 different bottles of this stuff???

Or for example my husband has this strange marker/pen buying problem. I swear he has like 100 different black markers. A black marker is a black marker. He does this with paper too, he'll collect different kinds of paper.
I ask

"Are you going to use this paper??"

" No."

"Can I throw it away?"

"No"

"You do realize after you die somebody's going to throw it away, right?"

Then he gives me this look.....

Anyways, tell me what kind of crazy stuff you can't seem to stop buying in excess. I don't want to feel alone in this issue.

When I count video games, CDs, DVDs and books as "needed" then... NO.
But only then.
I don't have the money to. I try to only buy the stuff I really want.

I buy new body soap when I run out of it.

stories associated with that one). I have a decent collection of ZBots. (for nonstalgia's sake.) I have numerous LCD handheld games throughout my house (colorized Space Invaders, Twisted Metal Joystick game, Millenium Falcon poptop game...)

And that's along with other innumerable crazy crap.
If it's crazy, and I like it, I'll try to buy it.

I buy trainers regulary. You only need one pair, but I like them.
But I try to stick to what I need generally, and only buy them if I have spare cash.

Apparently, Jerry Seinfeld has 500 pairs, all white.

EDIT I also buy a lot of books. Some I need for academic purposes however, but I count books as a need.

I try and just get things I "need". I recently purchased an iPod mini because my normal iPod went pfft. I didn't want to wait to take it to the local apple store. It's a steal for $65. I may just use it for a bit then sell it on E-Bay for a higher price. I think $100 for a mini is still good (4gb).

Well I have basically the ENTIRE Axe bodyspray collection. Like BarbieJenniGirl said I could to spray myself 10 times a day and not run out for a year. But I must admit I also use them for blowtorches/grenades.

Those are some damn exspensive grenades!

I have like 20 or 30 Boxes of Toothpaste i can never have enough toothpaste.

You and your crazy fetishes.

i dont buy anything i really need, except for Chocolate Milk.

I tend to download MP3's of albums off allofmp3.com, and If I like them, I end up getting the actual CD, when I could just burn the MP3's.

wow! i know remembers ZBots! not even my cousin, and we played with those things ALL THE TIME. i used to have quite a good collection of them, but one day my mom gave away my bin FULL of X-Men, Spiderman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and ZBot figures. i even had a Biker Mice From Mars toy in there.

anways, back on topic .

for awhile, i'd go to walmart every week or so and buy some fishing Hooks, knowing that i had atleast 100 Hooks in my tackle box, i'd still buy them

the other day at BJs i bought a BIG ASS thing of cheese balls, the barrel says approx. 1120. yeah, i'll be eating those things for awhile

What?! A bin? X-Men? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Zbots? BIKER MICE FROM MARS?! And she Crazy woman!

I am glad to see that someone else remembers Biker Mice From Mars, though. Damn, that show kicked ass. In fact, a lot of shows from my childhood kicked ass... so why do kid's shows generally suck nowadays? Rescue Rangers, GI Joe, Transformers, Thundercats, Biker Mice From Mars, Battle Planets (well, okay, the show wasn't so hot, but come on. The toys rocked), Mighty Max... where the hell did the 'quality' go?

You agree? It's nice to see that I'm not just full of crap (for once).

I find that if I go back and watch those cartoons, I realise that they are just as bad as the stuff kids have these days. I think 1980s style mainstream animation is just as bad as today's Americanised anime.

For me, I've realised, the only reason I once thought the cartoons I grew up with were better was that I was young when I watched them. Ten years from now, 'twenty somethings' will look at whatever crap is popular then and wonder what happened to the good old shows like Yu-Gi-Oh, and Pokémon.

It's the circle of merchandise.

I see a difference in the characters. Even with the basic crap, like Mighty Max, had at least one memorable, well-written characters (Virgil and that strongman-type guy, Yu-Gi-Oh and pokemon. Sure, they'll remember "that show they watcheda a kid", but they won't remember the characters, or the stories.

I was a kickass master plan).

I'm sure the kids will remember the 33 episodes where the yellow haired dude in DBZ fought that vegetable guy. Vegeta?

Yes, but DBZ doesn't count, as it takes fifteen episodes for a single character to say a full sentence. show gets drilled into their heads, they won't remember it because it was particularly memorable.

I find most of the stuff I watched as a child is just as good as I remember it as. For example I used to watch the muppet show ALL the time as a tyke. Now I have the DVD set, it's wonderful!
When I have money to waste I'm so going to buy Thundercats. Cause they ROAR!

you forgot SWAT Cats! or am i the only one that remembers that show?

How about "samari pizza cats

I was already a bit too old to really enjoy Samurai Pizza Cats when they were on in Germany...

Was "Captain Future" also popular or even known in the US/Canada, or was this only in Germany (and Japan)?

I've never heard of that. Captain Planet?

Anybody remember the MC Hammer cartoon.

Uh... no. Never heard of it.

I remember Swat Kats, but it really isn't in the same league as the other shows. I can't afford to be indiscriminating, because I watched all kinds of wierd crap as a kid. I watched Swat Kats, Samurai Pizza Kats, an imbecelic show about crimefighting cyborg dinosaurs...

I also watched other shows which seem to have disappeared from the face of the earth, which is a shame, because I remember them with fondness...

yes i love Swat Kats, !

I bought $1500 in guitar pedals last summer. I didn't NEED them.

There, back on topic.

Oh... wHoops.

Uh... I bought a wierd, useless magnetic puzzle once.

I buy a lot of pillows, but only use like 2 of them.

Hey your back ^^^^^^

Tools and paint. Any kind of tools and paint. I have a garage full of them, but yet I can't seem to quit buying them. I also collect wire and stray electronic equipment, cause you never know when you are going to need that odd capacitor, or transistor.

A pic of my sickness

I just bought 14 more bottles of body wash (some are trial sizes).

I'm so ashamed.

I sometimes splurge needlessly on myself. For example: though I am TRYING to save up to build myself a new computer, as well as purchase a new digtal SLR camera, last week I bought myself a new bass, a $250 effects pedal for it, and close to $200 in NES Games.

I also impulse buy my friends lots of stuff. For example, for Christmas I purchased 6 or 7 Generation Nexes to give out to friends (including Roth). One household I purchased one for (which several friends share) didn't have a TV in the livingroom with RCA inputs (ancient TV). A couple weeks after Christmas, I was pissed that they still hadn't Hooked it up anywhere, so I ran and bought them a TV.

I also spoil my girlfriend, but that's a given.

I have the same problem Zombie.... Every time I go back to my home town (about once a month) I buy for the whole weekend. ie: Beer, Food, Rent Videos Games, Gas, Cigarettes (not for me I quit 2 months ago), and basically anything they else we do i buy. I got about three main friends that I hang with and buy everything for. My family and Girlfriend get spoiled pretty good too .

And as far as buying useless junk, I obsess over something and buy everything for it. DragonBallZ for example, I bought every video for DBZ, DBGT, and most of Dragonball. Then I never watched them more than twice, and now they are just collecting dust. I have been wanting to get rid of them but they are not worth squat now. I refuse to sell them for $2 a piece when I paid $20 a peice!

Yeah, I make a lot of impulse buys. About 2 years ago, I decided that this Gundam SD line of action figures were the coolest things I had ever seen, and bought 10 or 11 of them at about 10 bucks a piece. They just sit on my bookshelf looking cool, I guess.

I have also been buying games WAY faster than I can play them recently, expanding my current-gen collection by at least 15 titles in the past couple months, not to mention my NES collection by about 60 titles.

When it comes to my friends....

I have the same damn problem!!! I have a nonexistant ability to say no sometimes (I think it's a girl thing). I only get paid twice a month and I am allowed to spend one paycheck on whatever I feel like (without my husband giving me a nasty look). It it's even harder when I work retail because I'm always seeing stuff to buy. Nothing is more therapudic than running that visa through the credit machine.....

But I rationalized it to be that I'm paying my friends back for putting up with my sometimes outlandish behavior.

Well, being the cruel, enabling bastard that I am, I thought that I would round up all of my favorite idiotic novelty items from stupid.com and submit them for your viewing (and possibly buying) pleasure.

(Not really my favorite, but come on. It's classic.

(Get it? Heh...)

(Warning: Excessively creepy)

get dumber just by looking at this)

(Also a classic)

(For the ladies)

(Teh Awesoime)

It was much cuter than the one stupid.com was selling.

If you think the Michael Jackson raisin was funny, my husband actually OWNS Micheal Jackson Stationary! It's a set that has him in one of those creepy sargenty outfits (from the late 80's early 90's), before he was completely "casper the ghost white". It has envelopes with his picture too!

ewww! is it Cheeto flavored?

that is pretty sweet....

i would buy that!! but it's $50

I want "the most unbelievably awesome thing on the planet" too.
I bought a darth vader and stormtrooper in the style of mr potato head. I think they're call "Darth Tater" and "Spudtrooper"
But they're cool. Do an image search on google if you wanna peek.

Oh yeah, they are cool.
My friends are envious.
Yeah, we're geeky.
