Help, Please.

(I am on a acer aspire 1690WLMi)

If anyone uses Norton anit-virus,and is on windows XP, (preferably) Please Read. My auto-protect is off, and will not turn on. Whenever i try to, it says norton anti-virus has encountered a internal program error. When i try to access some things on my computer, It says "connection closed gracefully". Itunes stopped working, so i went to download it again, and it didnt let me. Also, on control panel, at: add/remove programs, it wont let me remove anything. I did the manual system scan, and no virus or worm was detected. Im gonna bring it to the place i bought it, see if they can fix it. I just wanted to know the opinions of people more technically-inclined than myself. (Which is almost everyone). This kind of sucks.

Note: When i try and enable auto protect, upcomes this error message:

then on the Webpage it gives solutions, None of them work, everytime the same error message appears.

Here is the message that appears when i try to remove a program.

Anyone know how to change the settings of "safe Mode"??

When i try to acces Settings:

When i try to use Itunes:

Then i try to download Itunes again:

If I was having all those problems , I would back-up all the files I wanted to keep and reformat. I don't know how it got that bad, but it shouldn't have. I personally would reformat, then make sure to have good anti-spyware, good anti-virus, good firewall (Windows XP firewall should suffice), and of course, browse with Firefox. Hopefully you get it all fixed up... I know I hate computer problems. Just stay away from shady sites and programs.

Thanks, I will burn he files to a DVD-R tommorow, then see what the guys at the store can do about it.

You might try rolling back the system first, as long as you're going to reformat anyway.

Roll it back to a date when you're sure it was still working.

Yeah, you might try that as well. Make sure to back up any files that are newer first. Sometimes System Restore doesn't work too well, and you end up having to go VERY far back.

Is there any way you can post your "MS configurations"?
I run Norton also. I might be able to help if you can show what's running on start-up with "msconfig".

That's about it. I don't know anything about iTunes.
Try that "system restore" first though.

Hmm, i may sound like a complete idiot, but where can i access "Msconfig?" if i find itt, ill be sure to post you guys a picture. Do you think i should try and uninstall norton, and then reinstall with the discs that came with my computer maybe?

Click START >>> Click RUN >>> (type) msconfig - Click OK >>> Click Startup

!

I can take pictures of anything else there, if that will help you help me.

The only difference I see is that you're missing the , but I think that's only part of "Norton Internet Security Suite" and not just "NAV".
Not sure. It doesn't appear to be an obvious "worm" or anything though.

If you can re-install Norton, then you should be fine but you'll have to completely remove any old files from your current running Norton program to ensure a clean re-install.

(NOTE: Symantec website isn't very specific about the "4002,516" error. I tried.)

Yeah, the website seems to suck. Thanks verymuch for your help, ill try it.

Well, it wont even let me uninstall it:

Just thought id post a follow up. We brought it to the dealer. He said it was trojan Virus. And i got it from limewire. He could't get rid of it so he had to wipe the HD. Then, we got it back could't get the wireless internet working, so he wiped it AGAIN and reformatted everthing. Seems to work ok now.. Thanks for your help and BEWARE! I Have Microsoft anti spyware installed now, to go along with norton.

what Limewire did that?!!?

*airfiggy deletes Limewire*

Thats what the dudes said

And I thought I could trust LimeWire to download MP3 files. Now what else am I going to use?

Do you have a good virus protection program? and anti-spyware? i had been using it for a while and its ok. If you feel secure enough just make sure you know what your downloading.

man I remember the good old days when you could download stuff and not worry about it oh how I miss 1999!

You can get anything from peer to peer connections. As long as a peer is putting it out there and you decide you want that file, then you get it. Limewire is not to blame but the user who downloaded the infected file.

For future reference you may have wanted to update your virus definitions then reboot into safe mode, run a full scan from within safe mode. Also, you may want to wait a bit and check sarc.com in case you have a brand new virus or worm or whatever. You can download stuff as long as you do it carefully and use logic when deciding which files to download..1999 had plenty of viruses.

No antispyware or antivirus is any good without up to date definitions.
