What type of Net Connection Do you have?
If this has been asked before, please lock it.
In Germany I'm on DSL, but now in Japan I have 64kb dial-up (ISDN).
Manuel, why did you switch to dial up when you could have DSL.
I think you might mean in Japan on the first case.
And thanks for updating the pool options. I assume you did it.
I have DSL.
That was me.
I'm on 3Mbps DSL for now. I'm expected to be moving next month, I hope I can afford a similar connection then.

Sorry, that was a typo. In JAPAN, I'm on ISDN. Of course in Germany I would never get rid of DSL any more.
Actually I'm thinking of getting internet in my apartment, too. As it's Munich I could get a 6Mbps connection. I'll have to check prices, though.
Here in Japan I could actually have 30Mbps and more, but grandpa here doesn't use the internet himself very much (only for mails), so it's hard to convince him of the need of DSL.
Im running on a sad 56K modem.
Cable. It's too bad I don't have the super high speed connections Roth has though
... you're rubbing dial-up in my face... you KNOW how much I hate that,
Yeah, unfortunately, I have dial-up... it's a shame too, because I could get so much more done with many things having a faster connection. Hopefully one of these days I'll be able to afford cable.
I have the ultra fast Road Runner and love every bit of it
Cable. I also have a wireless LAN set up in my house so playing DOOM is a breeze!
Looking at some previous posts, what kind of connection speed is WEBtv?
I didn't even know people still use it. You wouldn't beleive how many of those units I see in garage sales and thrift stores.
hah webtv. my grandma used to have webtv for email and stuff. Its a reeeaal slow and has lots of error messages.
You think 56Kbps is slow, try my connection. 49.2Kbps. SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW. At least it's free. But I only get 10 hours a month.
hopefully I'll be able to get DSL soon. VERY soon.

I think King Brett has it. He was going on about how he couldn't download
NES ROM's on it or something. I have DSL and when I move into my university halls in a month i'll have an even faster connection

I believe the newer WebTV units are broadband connectable (DSL & cable).
I used an old Sony brand WebTV for two years. It was my first introduction to the internet. The older models only used a 56k dial-up connection, but from my experience, it seemed to load new content a lot faster than PC dial-up. My average connection was around 47-53 kbps nearly every time I logged on (as opposed to only getting about 28-35 kbps on a PC dial-up plan).
I have cable now. It's somewhere between the 3-5 Mb range. I have hit speeds of up to 2,000 KBps downloading some files from places like download.com, but it usually hangs around 100-380 KBps for the most time.
I really wish "connection speed" and "download speed" were measured in the same unit. I spent two full years thinking 56k modems could download 56 kilo.
(Remember, divide your bits by "8" to get the correct number in Bytes.)
I still would like to know why my 56K dialup downloads at 3.4 kb/sec??
56 kilobits divided by 8 = 7kilobytes!!! Where is my other 3.6 kilobytes!!!!

Firstly, 56k is the maximum possible speed, you likely connect more around 45kbps.
Secondly, there is TCP/IP overhead, which causes you to lose more speed.
This is a poor example, because my ISP just sucks, but my 3000kbps connection is often only around 2000kbps.
I really should not be complaining because my other 56K modem i used to have in my PC downloaded at 5 KB/Sec. Then i bought the one i have in now which was supposedly a "
Super Charged 56K Modem" which downloads at the lovely 3.4 KB/Sec. I never had the time to take that one out and put the old one in. Maybe I will tommorrow...
I don't want think back to the time when I used dial-up. But sometimes I reached up to 6kb/s with my 56k modem. That's probably the max of what you can expect.
What's up with the Net Zero 3G? Is it really as fast as they say it is?
I don't know, but I used to have dial-up through a place here in town. They eventually released software that made you surf so much faster! psh ... they used an accelerator... which means you can't hardly see the images because they've been lowered so much in file size that you can't even see the pic for crap. Makes for VERY bad pRon, toubabokoomi ).
Ha, that's hilarious. I remember the days Net Zero was free. I was thinking about it, and I've been using the net for a good while. Since I was 14 with AOL 2.5. Now I am 22.
DSL. Dowloading speed is quite slow though, through my wireless internet. I download
NES ROMs on my main computer and burn them on discs for my laptop when i need them.
