Obscure 80's shows....
Well, we got the cartoon thing going...so I thought this topic might be fun too. So...what's your favorite practically unknown 80's TV show? Me...well, I'm really into those 30 minute horror short story shows like Tales from the Crypt, Tales from the Darkside, Night Gallery ect. But does anyone remember a show called DarkRoom? It only ran for 7 episodes on
Sesame Street: ABC in about 82-83, and I've managed to track down 6 of those (almost passed out when I tuned into Sci-Fi one day and saw they were about to run a marathon of the show...had to grab that VHS tape quick!)... It had James Coburn as a host...and even though it was very low budget, it had some good stories. Anyone else remember it?
Tales from the crypt were so cool.
They still show it sometimes on German TV.
"Freddy's Nightmares" ( tv series with stories on elm street)
"
Friday the 13th" (tv series)
I also throughly enjoyed Tales from the Crypt (who doesn't love the little cryptmaster's quips???)
salute your SHorts!
for some reason that the only one I can think of right now.
Well, I'm not sure how obscure some of these are.
Greatest American Hero
You Can't Do That On Television
Tour of Duty (I think this may have been more 90's, maybe VERY late 80's)
That's just off the top of my head right now.
ALF. That show rocks. they completely took it off cable tv now though..
I use to watch tapes and such of Night Gallery. I own the first season on DVD.
The Fall Guy. I wanted his truck. (still do actually)
"Tour of Duty" aired from 1987 to 1990 (no doubt inspired by the movies "
Platoon" and "Full Metal Jacket").
I remember a few obscure shows from the 1980's...
"Amazing Stories" - Kind of like "The Twilight Zone" with a different story each episode, dealing with unexplained phenomenons and other weirdness.
"The Hitchhiker" - Also similiar to "The Twilight Zone" but dealt with more realistic (and psychotic) situations.
"Night Court" - Very funny sitcom about a wacky judge in a questionably handled courtroom. Not sure if it was a hit or not, but not many seem to remember it.
('TV Land' will be airing episodes soon!)
"Max Headroom" - Futuristic sci-fi drama dealing with humankinds struggle with technology.
(Thank you 'Tech TV' for bringing back this one - and screw you 'G4' for cancelling it.)
...
There was also this one show (I think it aired late nights on 'Nickelodeon') where the editors would re-dub the soundtrack and voice overs to some old movie, and turn it into something really funny, in a "What's Up, Tiger Lilly?" style fashion. Can't think of the name of that show though.
???
Good shows. I miss them.
I don't think "ALF" is all that . It was like NBC's highest rated prime-time show for about two years.
Freddies Nightmares, Amazing stories and the Hitchhiker are all great ones I've seen mentioned above. There was also a show called simply "Monsters", it came on pretty late...was pretty much stories about...well, monsters, lol. Was anyone else a Tales from the Darkside fan? The opening rocked... "Man lives in the sunlit world of what he beleives to be...reality. BUT!...there is, unseen by most..an underworld. A place that is just as real...but not as brightly lit...A DaRkSiDe!!!!!" I always loved that.....I recommend the episode "Seasons of Belief". It's a nice little twisted Christmas episode involving a creature called the Grither...it has that girl from Blossom in it who was named Six I think...she's like five years old, lol. And also the guy from the movie Creepshow who got devoured internally by the roaches...E.G. Marshall I beleive is his name.
Man I totally forgot about tales from the darkside. I loved that show. Scifi channel used to do reruns of it before it (the scifi channel) started to suck.
You're right! ALF was cool. Wait... still IS cool.
I still have tapes of many episodes.
Really? My big brother as every comic book of ALF, but one! One day I visited this used comic book shop and saw that they had 41 comic books of ALF, so of course I told my brother it. He's going to check it out, I'm pretty sure that he'll get the missing comic book!

my secret idenity
small wonder
monsters
photon
these are some of the best shows. i also liked that show i think it was called my dad is an alien or something with a girl who talked to a big piece of quartz and could wish stuff to happen when she touched her pointer fingers together
Amen
A Different World
I used to watch this show called "The tomorrow people" on Nick that was pretty cool. That may have been early 90's, instead of 80's though. Now I am not sure. I used to watch Night Court too! I loved that show. And another show I liked was "Empty Nest". I think that was the name of it. It was a spin off of "Golden Girls". Yeah, I know, I watched werid tv.
I remember Pinwheel.....sort of, I've drank alot since then (lol)
Let's see....Not sure if it was 80's or early ninetees, but wasn't there a show called "Out of this World". All I remember was that the dad was an alien and the daughter talked to him through some glowing pyramid looking thing she kept on her nightstand. And she could freeze time and things like that.
Also, anyone ever catch
Maniac Mansion? I used to watch that occasionally. The video game was WAAAAAAY different fromthe show, I know that much.
I personally liked the old show by the name of "Dinosaurs" I dunno if its an 80s show, but I remember watchin it when I was a kid.
Oh yeah, does anyone know where, offa what website I can buy any copies of the show "Monsters" Cuz it was a sweet show and I want to see it again. Thanks
Dinosaurs was okay, until you realized how much of a blatant copy it was of the Simpsons. Regardless, I loved that show when I was a kid.
'Dinosaurs' ran from 1991-1994.
I liked Kolchak the Night Stalker... Sci Fi Channel still shows reruns once every five thousand years. Wait, Kolchak was seventies. In that case, ah... let's say, Freaks and Geeks. Wait, that was nineties. Dammit! Fine. I choose Fraggle Rock.
8i only joined to ad a few u guys may have missed /count duckula/ cbs story brake /puff the magic dragon not sure when it come out but watched it in the 80s/DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS/thundercats/silverhawks/david the noam/here is a good one/The Mysterious Cities of Gold/danger mouse/banana man/heathcliff/gummybears/DENVER THE LAST DINOSAUR/DINO RIDERS/DOGTANIAN/EWOKS/G-Force/JAYCE & THE WHEELED WARRIORS/POLE POSITION/CENTURIONS/if i think of some more i will let yall know later
wow fraggle rock i used to watch all the time i have not seen it in years though.
I think in one episode off the simpsons they mocked the similarity. I think Bart's watching it on TV and one dinosaur looks exactly like him and the other looks like Homer (but Dinosaurised) I can't remember it exactly though.
