PC Gaming

In Modern Systems

What kind of games do you like to play on your computer (besides emulators!)

the only kind of games I can really get into on the PC are First Person Shooters, most everything I'd rather play on a console.

I've been playing two PC games (the only two I own) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Knights of the Old Republic. Both games are sweet!

Well, I suppose there are the MMOs that are hard to find (and finance) on a console, I've been following Planeshift recently, guildwars is awesome, but planeshift is still in alpha testing, but it's an open alpha, so check it out if you get a chance. It's a large download, but I've downloaded larger on dial-up in the past.

I'd say multi-player games(seperate computers per player) are usually better at a computer. Half-life, Unreal, etc. I've also liked the strategy games like Command and Conquer, etc.-- they're not at all easy to control with a console controller compared to a mouse.

Of course, I haven't played a PC game in years...

Actually, when I got my PC, I didn't want to get any games for it. But my sons' a big Turtles freak, and I don't have an XBox (had to get KOTOR). Besides that, I don't really play any others. There is a new sneaking game out that I'd like to try, can't remember the name of it...

I just found this write up. If you haven't gotten into PC gaming, and need a few tips on how to get started, read this:

The only true games I have for the PC are 'Grand Theft Auto: Vice City' (It has better graphics than the PS2 and supposedly doesn't contain all the flaws from the PS2 version like guys shooting you through walls and stuff but you know what- it does. However it will let me upload my own mp3's to the radio stations so now I can play Vice City to the tune of such 80's classics as "We Built This City on Rock & Roll" and "The Final Countdown"! Yeah screw you Blender magazine! Those songs RULE!)

I also have the 'Maniac Mansion' remake, and the demo for 'Half-Life 2' (if I can run this one then it's game on!)

And of course MAME.

I had the demo of Half Life 2 on a machine recently, it ran alright on the lowest settings, but it liked to reboot my machine when it tried to save, and when it came back up it yapped about some nvidia error, so I think I need to update my video drivers or something...

Playing your own MP3's has gotta be cool. I play the PS2 version of GTA3, and that music gets really annoying after a while-- the same songs, over and over and over again(even if you listen to all the different stations)...

I also have the 'Maniac Mansion' remake, and the demo for 'Half-Life 2' (if I can run this one then it's game on!)

I haven't seen HL2. The computers I use now-a-days probably couldn't handle it, as they don't have any fancy graphics cards-- just basic computers that I use for business, web browsing, etc... I played Half Life and Unreal TE a bit, though-- that was pretty fun...

I think the system requires at least a GeForceFX to run it smoothly. I have a GeForce4 440 which doesn't help a lot (it also doesn't help that it's on a notebook PC).

The actual game runs fine (but only at 640X480 resolution), however the opening cutscene is very slow and skippy. I hope the rest of the game is playable (I don't want to waste cash on something I can't play- but probably will anyways).
I wish I could see it at 120fps or more. That would be mind blowing!

The old adventure games. Sierra's Kings quest series hold more childhood memories than the NES! I also love LucasArts Adventure games such as monkey Island. God Those are good games.

I actually do enjoy PC gaming. First Person Shooters are by far my favourite. My favorite game would have to be American McGee's Alice. It is a very fun game. It's 3rd person, but still, an amazing game.

i like madden games and the sims 2 is pretty great

im all about diablo 2 =( other games i dabble in are world of warcraft and some real old school stratagies

anyone else play?

I mostly play card games.
Although Commandos ( the very firs version) is the game I spent most time with.

Sometimes I play a good round of "shisensho".
Does anybody know this?

There's also a NES game of that genre. "Tiles of fate". If you didn't already, try it! It's addicting.

There's a very good anthology of games (including shisensho, they call it rivers there) for the PC. Go to
and download it. It's very good software, even good enough to pay for it. You don't have to, though.

Delta Force 2 online was the first computer game I really got Hooked on playing online. The maps are massive, I never played on broadband though..only back on my 56k (it was ugly, but so much fun).

Rogue Spear is my other favorite for online play.

The Carmaggedon Series has to be my all time favorite computer game series. Carmaggedon 2 Carpocalypse Now is my favorite. It's just so fun, and it's a breeze to mod. And creating your own mods extends the game's life to like 8 years.

Oh, the sweet memories....I don't play computer games anymore.

real time strat is what its all about on pc. nothing can take that away but when it comes to everything else no questions.

I'm so bad at realtime strategy... I always lose on those games.

Its the best online game ever!

My wife is really big into puzzle games. We just picked up this game called Mahjongg, and she says it's awesome! It looks kind of like something called Mushu (hope I spelled that right ) Tiles... Anyway, yeah... she likes that...

Have you never heard of mahjong before now? Its like widely popular especially for older pc systems. Its cool but i get bored of stuff like that

Roth, please download kyodai from if you didn't do that already. It's great.

I also recommend sokoban. As I finally recalled the name of it I recommend that strongly to everybody. There are a lot of freeware sokobans out there. Grab one. They're cool.

I've played Mahjongg a little, it was a pretty cool game when I made any sense of it, although I only played the match up game thing... Roll greatly enjoyed it though.

what do you mean you played the matchup thing? What else in mahjjong is there

what do you mean you

mahjongg has a lot of different ways of play, it's a lot like dominoes. I'm not the expert, but I'm sure someone else can explain it better.

Mahjongg has lots of ways you can play it.
You can play with 4 or 3 or 2 players, you cannplay solitaire with it. Then it's mostly called Shanghai.
You can also use the same tiles for a game called shisensho.

Solitare with it?
How does that work lol

By solitaire I meant you play alone. You have lots of different game variants for 1players.

yeah but dont you still match it up?
I dont no im totally confused...
ayy yayyy yahhh

No matchups.
You are given a problem you have to solve alone.

I got my hands on a controller for PC games that kicks rear!

It's made by some company called Nyko, and the name of the controller is the Air Flo. It's your standard set-up, much like the PS controllers. Diamond shaped buttons, D-Pad, four shoulder buttons, analog sticks.

What makes it unique, and why it's called Air Flo, is it has a fan built into the controller! It doesn't work 100% perfect, but it helps your hands cool a bit more than normal. Pretty cool!

Yes, I heard of those. I think there is also such one for Gamecube.

I didn't use one though. Test it some time and give us a rating please.

Tested already!

Works great! It feels good in the hand, and the diamond buttons are spaced out nicely (that's for NES-Luke! ).

yes, I've always liked the Playstation style D-pad, or the Genesis/MegaDrive 3-button controller's D-pad, all others feel cramped

for those that can't make sense of this, my thumbs are excessively big

I particularly enjoy the war-strategy games such as Command and Conquer, Empire Earth, and Age of Empires.

Just about anything I can get to run decently (dos or win). Which isn't much actually.
