The "Sandwich" System
I recently bought one of the newer PS2s, and I've got to say...
This thing is small!
I've started referring to it as the sandwich. I took a couple of pics with
NES Games to show the ratio. It's pretty funny! (it seems I have a few things to learn about lighting )
Here are two
NES Games stacked up next to it. The PS2 isn't even two games tall! A little over one-and-a-half games tall.
Here are two games on top to show the length of it.
I just think it's crazy how technology gets smaller and smaller. Granted, I know they took the fan out of the PS2. But it's still small for a
POWerful console.
That's really small and I even like the design, but I don't like Sony as a producer any more, that's the only reason for me not to buy their stuff.
I didn't actually read your post, but I was wondering why there's a picture of two NES cartridges on top of that sandwhich?
?
Then perhaps you should read the post?
C'mon give it a try, it's not that difficult.

You haven't heard the news? Sony bought the rights from Nintendo for the whole back catalogue of
NES Games and as a result decided to make their new version of the PS2 backwards compatible with the NES. The most interesting new feature is the ability to play 2 games at the same time.
And you only have to lay the games on the console. No problems with dirty connectors any more!
Haha!
Yeah, I also like to lay games around my sandwich... Here's my PS2 collection...
While I'm at it, here is the PS1 stuff that I have. I pretty much only want MGS and CV: SotN to make me feel better. Oh, and there is one other game there. I have Suikoden II with Suikoden I in the same container. It's a double disc-container and I kind of designed my own "boxed-set" of the two. The front half of the container is the first one, with booklet and front cover of the first one, and the back part is the second one, with the booklet and backing from the game. Perhaps I'll take pics of that at a later time.
Oh man, that PS1 collection!!!!! Hahahaha
That Magic Carpet game drives me NUTS. My mom had it for Saturn and she played it almost literally nonstop for....I'm gonna say 3 years. Dead serious. She played that thing into the ground. Ugh.
And Overblood?! Hahaha, I got that for free. Super early survival "horror" game. I didn't think anybody else actually owned it! I'm gonna have to fire up the old PS1 emulator and play through that sometime.
Ha! Awesome, someone else knows about this game! Actually, we call it Blood Oven. If you do get around to playing it sometime, notice the load screen with the cd on it. There are a couple of letters that are hard to make out from the "glare" they put on the cd. It looks like it could say Blood Oven! Ha! Yeah, now I can't remember how to even get out of the first room! I'm so forgetful.
...
My freind got that new ps2 for christmas, it's like the size of a book.
a book called War And Peace?
yeah my friend has the new ps2 (slim design) but its kinda weird... i dont trust it lol
Ha! No, more like a book called "The Cat in the Hat!" haha
That thing is really skinny!
So far, I've had no troubles with over heating and such. I played MGS 3 for about... 15-17 hours straight... just trying different things and such. It rocked! No problems with it at all. It's a pretty good system!
15-17 hours straight.... u must be crazy
Actually, I kept telling myself.. "Okay, I'll see what's on this next part, then I'll turn it off." Yeah right! Each part kept getting better and better! I had to keep playing it! When my wife woke up in the morning (it was about 5 am), I was fighting the last boss! She was like, "What just happened?" That game (MGS 3) is incredibly addicting... I love it.
...
roth so you beat suikoden II huh. Thats one of my fav RPGS. SUch a great game..and i couldnt help notice you have a sports game....*RUNS FAR*
Ha! We got the PS2 at Toys 'R' Us, and the only way you could purchase it was in a bundle. That was two games, the system, AND the warranty. So, I kind of got screwed on it. There were no other stores that had one, though. PS2s had been sold out for awhile, so it was a good thing that they only sold in bundles. No one else would buy it, so that helped me out! It allowed me to play MGS 3! I'm so happy!
Yeah, I've beaten and own both of the PSOne Suikodens. Awesome games! They're my favorite RPGs of all, I think. They've the old school feel to them, plus great character building. Plus, it's not linear... I mean... the story is, of course. But you have to explore most of the time. Really cool! Oh yeah, and returning characters? Nice! They even built the same characters even more... They were doin' some good game design and what-not when these games were created.
ive always wanted to play the first suikoden but i could never find it . Is it fun as the second game? I heard about the story and what not but i just HAVE TO HAVE IT.
I find it strange it never had a master
POWer switch to completly turn it off, you can only pull the cord out.
Well, when you hold the button in to make it go into it's "sleep mode" or whatever you want to call it, it's basically off. There's no heat coming from it or anything. I basically just do that. No reason to keep unplugging it really.
yes, you're better off putting it into standby anyway, electronics don't really like surges of
POWer, which is what happens when you connect or disconnect
POWer from them, be it via the main
POWer switch, or removing the cord.
Well theres something i always thought but wasnt sure! lol more gaming knowledge
I wondered if anyone was going to notice that! Yeah, it's part 3 of both series. Those were two of my most sought after games, so I decided I would use those as my "measuring tools" for the pic. Good eyes!
...
Me too. I only can
Hook up one system at a time. I hope I find a solution for that problem soon.
I have both my xbox and nes
Hooked up.. bo problem! Lots of wires though
Haha!

execuse me but do u just love konami
Castlevania,
Contra, Silent Hill. Not like i dont like them or anything i love konami and u gots
Contra SS awesomeness i thought
Oh yeah! Konami has got to be the best video game company ever! They've been around for so long, and continue to crank out awesome games! I can't get enough of their games... at all! Even since the NES... and since I discovered MSX Emulation, I saw that they made most of the games for that, too. Good ones, too. Awesome company!
u ever played twinbee or parodius
oh and u should buy some of Konamis
Gradius (
Life Force) for PS2 SNES
and all that
heres a
Gradius site
...
me saturn 2 Ps2 (1 upstairs) 1 xbox, and1 cube
At the moment I have... the SMS, N64, and Dreamcast
Hooked into my A/V selector, although I need to get a larger one so I can use the SMS and NES at the same time. And so I can add the Genesis, and SNES to the mess of wires.

They did, along with some other crap, its supposed to be defective because its has some stuff they took off
The Fan.........Burns Up Really Easily and have to rest Alot.
The Disc Slot........... They put one that opens up and it gets stuck some times.
I don't know any thing else, but i'm pretty sure it's very defective
Your gonna get crapped on for that pretty soon. I have my genesis, PSone,N64,Dreamcast,SNES and NES
Hooked up all at once right now.
What are you saying is defective? The new PS2s? If so, mine certainly isn't. It gets played quite regularly, and DVDs even get watched on it

Well, my Cousin has one and it sure is defective, he got a new one and it was defective also
Could you clarify "defective?" I'm not some Sony fanboy here or anything, but I think the product is good. I've never had any problems with it... no "defects." What were his systems doing?
Well, for starters, it turned off by it self, and the AC/DC cord was left intact,
The Disc Slot got stuck and he had 2 apply pressure that it almost got broken.
Well, mine works alright. It gets a little warm but not suprising after 5 hour long Tekken 5 sessions kinda annoying.
Bear in mind that the actual boards inside those
NES Games are only about half the size of the case
Actually, thinking about it, you can get the NES itself on a single chip these days.
Tell me about it! Ha! I think the funniest is the size of DS games... now THAT's small, especially with such large games on them.
Yeah, the games inside the carts of the NES are pretty small. Since I've been cleaning all my carts by taking them apart, so far the biggest board I've ran across is the SOROM-02 that was used for Nobunaga's Ambition. It's over half the size of the cart itself... I was actually surprised.
About the Sandwich, I luckily haven't had the problems that your friend has had, Javi. I haven't heard many horror stories of the new one's yet (present issue excluded), so I feel pretty safe right now
Told you, I knew you where going to get crapped on
Edited for retarded things that I said.
The only real complaint I ever hear about the PS2 Sandwhich is that it simply "get's hot". I don't see how this can be an extreme problem (surely it can't get any hotter than what my notebook P.C. gets).
The lack of a "
POWer off" button seems a rather minor qualm as well, considering that you would still have a system that actually "works" when you put a disc in it. I haven't really heard/read anything about major "disc read errors" on the slimline PS2 model. It may have taken Sony about 3 years, but I think they finally fixed the problem.
The lack off a
POWer off button isn't really a "problem" and the "warm" thing isn't (as Z.E.N said) an extreme probelm, it's just gets hotter than the original. But anyway, like Z.E.N, haven't read/heard about major disc read errors for it. The end.
Told you, I knew you where going to get crapped on
I think
M.C. Kids took up the whole Cartridge with the chips, the programmer said they could barely fit all of the Stuff into the Cart.
Biggest cart I think I've seen is Bandit Kings of Ancient China. It's a heavy Famcom cart in a casing about the size of an EA Genesis game.
I know Im all late in saying this... but the ps2 slimline rocks! I got one too and never has it over heated and it takes up NO space. and when you got the big 'ol NES on a shelf you need all the room you can get. (much love to my NES roots though)
no they are still there, other wise my dad wouldnt have that sandwich, he plays socom alot thats why he got it. Socom is cool for the Head set too.
Well for Christmas I have recieved my first ps2 and its the slim model. I have to say that Im enjoying it quite a bit. Ive heard alot of problems with model one ps2's and glad I didnt get that one. Ive played on them at a buds house and what not and it seems they have disk read errors. So glad I got the "sandwitch system". I recommend getting capcom classics collection. I played some final fight and
GunSmoke on it the otherday as well as
Street Fighter 2010 II world warrior and hyper fighting. GREAT COLLECTION. ALL PERFECT ARCADE PORTS!
and u have infinite Continues!
They should have kept the blue on the front/top on the new model. I think it looked cooler. The external transformer is good if you ever try to operate it off batteries, but I doubt you'll find one that can both last long and supply at least 5 amps.
As for Javi's stuck disk comments, are you sure it wasn't the disc itself? If so, the model two also has a mechanism to keep the disk from spinning freely when it's turned off or opened. Make sure the game runs before assuming it's defective.

No, He tried with all Discs he has, stupidly. He almost broke the poor system... He got a Big model at Ebay And sold his sandwich.
