Gamecube
One of my favorite Systems personally. I've actually heard rumors about Nintendo working on a new system, which hopefully will be more refined than the cube.
Actually, I have all the Nintendo systems up to and including the N64. I've never played on a Game Cube, Gameboy Advance, etc. I do see that they're releasing NES classics for some of the new systems-- proving that their playability lives on, I guess...

When I had got an GameCube, I was blown away by the graphics on Resident Evil Zero. Simply amazing. To bad the system wasn't made with more options than a carrying handle. It could've been great!
the GameCube has
POWer, all of the third party developers have kinda left nintendo high and dry since the N64 though. There are some coming around, but I don't think Nintendo will ever reclaim the home console throne that they once held so well, with people losing appreciation for gameplay over graphics things are going downhill again...
EXACTLY!!! No matter how cool the graphics are, a crappy game is still a crappy game. After time I've learned to appreciate being able to just pop in a game and go. Most of the time now, you almost have to go to a four-year university just to get the controls down! Also, some of the games are so darn long, you just don't want to play them a second time, no matter how cool they were.
I personally love long games, larger sense of acomplishment when you finish them, but they have to be good, and have quality gameplay, not just length.
The longest I can stand to play one game is about the amount of time it takes to beat Suikoden or Suikoden 2 for the PlayStation. Those are my favorite RPG's ever made! I've played through those games dozens of times. I think it's because it has fun characters with good character development.
Well, let me say that the time counter on the
Final Fantasy VII stops at 99:59(I didn't stop playing then, if I were to guess I would have to say I put that much time into it at least twice over). and I think the load game screen stops properly displaying your gil sometime before either 3, or 30 billion
I would estimate my playtime to be over 200 hours.

The actual storyline of gameplay, or were you just spending time afterwards leveling up or finding all the best weapons?
Wow! Now that's some patience. I commend you! I played quite a bit of FF VII, but didn't get as far into as I should have. I'm not even sure what ever happened to that game. I may have traded it for NES carts. Most likely that's what happened. I don't have a PS anymore anyway. I would've liked to have finished that game, though.
I think I spent 50 or 60 hours finishing up the main story, but there were lots of little things to do afterward, (damn those weapons are hard to beat) I think the only thing I don't have is the 'Alexander' materia, but I have master summon, so I can still use it. I mean to finish that up some time.
of course there is also Star Ocean, I'm working on my 4th or 5th time through that one, at around 40-50 hours each, so it's up there too. But the FFVII time is on a single save file.
Has anyone here ever played Xenogears? I never have, but my friend used to have it. It looked interesting.
We're hijacking threads all over the place but since we're a it...
I haven't played Xenogears personally, but I agree that it did look interesting.
Hijacking's a tough job, but somebody has to do it! I believe Xenogears had a flying cat in it, but I'm not 100% sure. I just remember a part in the storyline my friend showed me where the story was bouncing back and forth on what a couple of different characters were doing.
There were tons of fun games back then that I could never find, after I get what I feel to be an adequate NES collection, I'm going to start on SNES. But one game I have been looking for for years is
Street Fighter 2010 Alpha 3, for the PS, or the DC, I have a story that almost resulted in violence related to that game, but I think we should maybe start a new thread about that kind of thing, rather than stealing this one even further
True. Oops!

Wasn't there something special about Xenogear? Like being the longest RPG ever? Multiple DVD's, I think?

hmmm... I'm not sure. I'll have to ask my friend. Maybe I can get him to join. He has good gaming sense. But I know there was more than one disc.
Xenogears was for the PS I think, meaning it would be CDs, and I don't think it's going to have more than 4 (FFVIII, and IX)
Yeah, I think it was 3. Not sure, though.
OK-- I was confusing it with XenoSaga for PS/2...
--
Derek
and how many discs was it? or is it that you combined the two and thought that Xenogears was on the PS2 and took up 3 DVDs?
I honestly can't remember... It might just have been the longest playtime RPG or something...

perhaps, I looked at the website and they claim 80 hours, although that's dependant entirely upon skill and overall fun of the game. I spent over 80 hours on FFX because it was fun, I didn't want to finish it.
Xenogears was only on PS1 discs. It had real-time rendered graphics so it didn't quite use up as much space as the big pre-rendered
Final Fantasy games and it didn't have CG animation.
The game took me 99 hours, which is definitely long considering that Xenogears could actually be "paused" at any time to stop the in-game clock, whereas
Final Fantasy's kept running when on menu screens and such.
Xenogears was perhaps the most story heavy game of its time, although it didn't have 1 hour cut-scenes like I've heard that Xenosaga 1 has.
It was also one of the finest RPG experiences I've ever experienced with its terrific sound, music, characters, and plot lines.
Highly recommended, but only the hardcore will stand to play through it more than once.
gamecube is amusing in comparison to xbox and ps2 except xbox is the best
would you mind explaining why the Xbox is the best? if possible, without going off on the whole "oh, it's the most
POWereful because it's 733Mhz and has 64MB of RAM!!!!!!!!" if you know nothing about hardware.

lol well i believe there basically the same (ps2 and xbox) except for the fact that xbox has no memory cards needed and virtually infinite memory as i have seen also the xbox can handle more like it loads faster
well, the load times are the fastest on the GameCube due to the smaller disc size, although the Xbox is a close second. nothing can compare in terms of storage though, the xbox takes it there. but I have seen a lot of slowdown on xbox games. which frustrates me a lot.
well i mean xbox has a faster loading capacity on its and ps2 games gamecubes games arent nearly as packed full so of course theres loads faster
If it's a well programmed game, it loads fast even when it's packed full.
And I don't think the capability of loading fast and no need of memorycards make a console better than the other.
Of course, technically the XBox is the strongest console on the market, but if there is no software I want to play...
I prefer Gamecube to XBox, because of Mario and
Zelda. (I don't like shooters like Halo and stuff)
No, the Xbox is NOT the strongest console. and I guess I'll have to explain why...
#1 yes, it's a 733Mhz CPU and the GC is a 485Mhz CPU, and the PS2 is either 266Mhz or 300Mhz (I can't remember...) BUT if you know anything about WHICH CPUs those are, then you can't claim the Xbox has the strongest.
the Xbox uses a modified Pentium III or Celeron. Which is just a normal every day off the shelf desktop chip at it's base. it's a CISC chip, which is less efficient than a RISC chip which is what both the GC and the PS2 are.
clock rates are pretty much irrelevant when comparing chips of different architectures (Xbox is x86 arch, GC is PPC, and the PS2 is MIPS) and it's getting to be that it's irrelevant to compare them even in the same architecture. take the Athlon from AMD, and the Pentium 4 from Intel, look at probably 80% of the benchmarks, and the Athlon is faster, and yet they've JUST broken 2.8Ghz I believe, intel is at 3.8Ghz.
#2 the xbox, again just uses an off the shelf GPU (graphics processor) modified slightly (nVidia GeForce 3) with no dedicated memory. whereas the PS2 uses a custom chip designed for the console(it also shares system memory for the GPU), and the GC uses and ATI chip (I would consider the GC and Xbox tied here, since neither use a specialized chip)
#3 the Xbox has 64MB of RAM, while the GC has 48MB in total, and the PS2 has 32 (if I remember correctly) BUT, the most xbox games run on a modified windows kernel, and I'm sure everyone knows the efficiency of windows... while the PS2 and GC both use a custom OS and kernel designed for the console specifically.
in conclusion, there is a trend, note that if you just go by the numbers without knowing anything about what's behind them, then the Xbox is the 'strongest' but if you know what you're talking about, then the GameCube could be said to be the most
POWerful due to the fact that it takes advantage of a RISC CPU and a completely custom OS.
Also note that the PS2 is VERY weak in comparison to both consoles if you just go by the numbers. and yet I would say that some of the best graphics have been seen on the PS2.
Also, if any of my facts are inaccurate, please feel free to let me know as this is all from memory...
I really don't want to defend the XBox, but look at games that came out on all three consoles and most times, the XBox version looks best. (I don't like that fact, though)
My favourite example is Soul Calibur 2. Ps2 is the worst and GC/XBox are the better versions (graphically). XBox version seems a bit smoother than the GC version.
I'm not good at technics, so I don't know too much about CPU types and their advantages and disadvantages. I only can compare them by the looks.
But if you tell me, GC is the best, I will believe you. Because I like GC best.
Those weren't pre-rendered?
edit:
I found a site that said, Cube is place 3. Are they mad??

yeah i can definitly understand where youre coming from...
heck if i had the money id own all three because i love some of the gamecube games EXAMPLE: Animal crossing. but the xbox having unlimited memory i really love because memory cards are expensive dont they run 30$ for ps2...
I wish they ran $30 when I bought mine... I bought
Final Fantasy X right around the time they were having a big shortage on memory cards here, so I had to pay $70 for an imported one... another thing Sony sucks at... suppling an adequate ammount of product. rather than give enough, they'll ship half as much as is needed and reap the benefits of a majorly inflated price. I've never had this problem with Nintendo.

holy crap u payed 70 bucks for a memory card i would not thank in my dreams of doing that lol what a rip
all but nintendo even microsoft doesnt have enough of there product at once from what ive seen not just sony mc too...
This is very true. It seems as if they don't have enough faith in their own product sometimes. I had to wait for months just for stores in this area to get any PS2s in after they sold out. This is a town of 32,000 mind you. Not huge, but not tiny, either. Pathetic.

yeah my city has thousands although i dotn no how many, anywayz, they still dont have any ps2s and its been about a month and a half since thyeve been sold out about 4 weeks before christmas... its utterly sad
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Nintendo is the only one still putting out a quality product, and putting the consumer first. with the DS, if there was even a SINGLE dead pixel, they would ship you a replacement. usually most things require a minimum of three dead pixels to warrant replacement. and not only did they replace the console, they allowed you to keep your current one, and ship it in when the new one arrived. there have been numerous other times where Nintendo ser
Vice it just above and beyond all of the others.
it's for that reason that I continue to support them as opposed to the others. I went to the dark side for a time, but that was a terrible mistake. I have now returned, and am getting back to my roots with the NES, and I've had no problems.

yeah there is much due respect for nintendo i totally agree... but i just wish they could make more graphical and some more non childish games like for gamecube... i mean they got some games that arent childish and a ok amount for evrybody but they have tons of "Kiddy Games"
I don't think there are a lot of 'kiddy' games, I think there are a lot of everyone games, just because guts aren't spewing from large open wounds, and peole aren't cursing and swearing doesn't mean a game is kiddy. if you spend some time with those games you're probably very much enjoy them,
Nintendo is a family oriented company, and always has been. unfortunately everyone takes life too seriously and tries to be too 'grown-up' and just dismisses those games as crap because they're pure simple fun.
That was a drawback they had before. I've seen them hit the older audience since the release of the GC. I'm sure it's going to boost their sales tremendously. Don't forget, the system they first put out by themselves was called the Family Computer, so they had to make games suitable for anyone in the household. With times changing, so do companies.

yeah that makes lots of sense i mean i like a lot of the games for gamecube but i thought there games on the gc dont have so much replay value i have a lot more replay on my games for xbox
Nintendo's high quality policy is the reason why I always be faithful to that company. Nintendo never disappointed me and never will.
'
yeah... they havent dissapointed me either .... i mean i grew up with the playstation 1 and 64 just coming out i didnt buy a psone untill like 99-2000 it was ok but when i was like 4-6 somewhere in there my bro got a 64 he was 4 years older then me. anyway i saw how awsome it was and maybe a year later i got a 64 which is what i grew up playing..... so i started as a tendo man and will stay a tendo man
I was the first in my neighbourhood to own a N64. Oh, these were the days. After me several kids (who heard from my little sister about the N64) got one.
