Do you think it was a bad idea for nintendo to make a smaller disc for the gamecube then the ps2 and xbox.

I think yes and no:

Yes it was a bad idea because they diminished the amount of storage on the disc. And no it wasnt because the smaller discs are easier to handel and transport.

Not at all. The smaller disc makes for fast loading time, and some pretty long games can fit on them. The only thing i would be worried about is: "Man, i payed 70 bucks for this thing?"

Looking at the fast loading times, YES, it was a GOOD decision.
It's also quite hard to copy Gamecube discs due to their size.

Not at all. Fast loading times are great. Also, who cares if it can't play DVDs. I bought it to play games, and not to watch movies .

Yea, but see, Microsoft and Sony just lost the sense of videogames, They want to stuff any thing they can on a box, they are called VIDEOGAMES, not Video DVD's or Video CD Player. Nintendo, on the other hand, just focuses on the main point:

I would hate to do this, but sony just had their heads screwed on right. We would all be confused to why the ps2 wouldn't be able to play dvd movies if the games were on dvds because it would be a fairly simple addition, the software for playing dvds is not nor does it have to be complex, because as it has been said the ps2 is for video games. i wouldn't complain about the lack of a fast foward faster than 2x.

Nintendo I believe did it to curb piracy in small way and has done it fairly successfully. THe only way I can think that pirates have done their work is through the network adapter. But i'm no pirate....

microsoft certainly did it for the money because I think initially you had to buy an addon to play movies..i don't know if this is still true, but I figure that is merely a simple thing.

Javi said that nintendo focuses on video games, which may be true but then again that is "all" that their company is involved with, they don't really make dvds or part of a humongous conglomerate that own movie houses or music houses like sony is.

so, in the end. everybody wants money. nintendo just doesn't want a dvd player because that would encourage purchasing dvd movies that may have been put out by sony..maybe, but i'm just speculating.

As far as that Q i think it was called. that panasonic region free gamecube it was hugely expensive and only could be bought through import shops or the net.

I think its cool because it just fits with the system. Nintendo also like to be the first for everything too, so... and as we've seen the size of the disc doesnt really matter 'cus they just make two disc games for the super sized games. a little psone-ish if you think about it but Im okay with it. aslong as the game is worth it.

Yeah, I see nothing wrong with those companies including that stuff. I used to really hate it, but now my DVD player messed up, so I'm glad Sony made their system able to play DVDs! I wouldn't be able to watch hardly anything right now if I didn't have my PS2.

I still like the fact that Nintendo kept their system to solely gaming though. That lets you know where they stand I suppose. As for the smaller discs, I don't mind at all. I remember when I got my first GameCube and opened up RE0 I think it was.... I was like, "What?!? Is this SERIOUSLY what the games are on?" Turned out to be nice though... I figured the quality of games would be next to nothing. I guess that just goes to show you to never judge a book by it's cover

Hey is it possible to buy some of those mini cd-rs and burn gamecube games? Not saying that I would, or even have a computer to do it on anyways. By the way since I started this post i should that:

I think nintendo should've made regular discs for games because they could STORE MORE. Then again this FASTER LOADING is good too. I guess you don't need a huge disc to put a mario game on anyway.

I think it's still true.

I don't think Nintendo's decision to go with smaller discs was a bad one, it does stop piracy, or at least make it very difficult.

Personally i dont see a problem with it at all. As long as the game works great, hardly a load time, smooth im all good and ready. But the bigger disks do look cooler and arent as easy to drop.

Thats where the cases come in handy

If you mean "do you think multi-platform games are worse on the gamecube than on xbox/ps2" then no.
But, when I owned all three of the new consoles, I used to get multi-platform games on the Xbox, no reason why. Unless it was cheaper on the Gamecube, as it sometimes was.
