INTENSE Gaming
It seems alot of the newer games that are out have a high level of intensity to them. What games can you think of that are the most intense from PS2 on up?
What exactly do you mean by intense?
My favorite racing series has quickly become the Burnout series (with Burnout 3 on top). Those games are NUTS, and that's how I like my racing games. Gran Turismo is far too slow-paced and realistic for me.
I like my racing arcadey and fast.
I played a little Burnout 3, it was quite fun. almost worth grabbing an Xbox for.
By intense I mean games with either intense battling, parts in the storyline, or anything that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The kind of games that really put you or the character in dire straits.
there are a lot of games that really get your heart pounding. spending a few hours getting past a really hard spot, and then seeing that boss... always gets me... any good game can do that
Some games that we discussed in other threads: Ikaruga and
Contra - Shattered Soldier are among the top dogs for intensity in gameplay to me.
As far as story intensity, I'd have to say Silent Hill games take the cake. There's always a nice (if not unpleasant!) surprise waiting in the story, even if it's hard to understand.
I can vote Ikaruga, that is a quality game!
That it is! And it's a shame more people don't know about it. It has to be THE most innovative new styling of shooter out there! Whoever first thought of the idea for switching colors to get unharmed by like colored debris, I commend!
not only that, but getting charged by absorbing attacks of the same colour, very interesting concept. when I first played I didn't even know about the colour switching thing, I just thought it was a cool shooter, once I figured that out however, I declared it to be the best shooter ever.
Ikaruga
Everyone here should try this game!
I'd like to find it in the arcade to try, I only have the DC version right now.
Wow! I wasn't aware there was an arcade version! That would be great to try!
I'm thinking the MGS series would be another intensified styling. Waiting for enemies, sneaking and hoping they don't catch you! Great fun, and gripping!

Then I'd say
Zelda - The Wind Waker.
This game's intense. I played played it and couldn't let my hands off it. The characters' movements are so lively and real. It's great. And of course Soul Calibur (1 and 2).
ah Soul Calibur, got the girlfriend
Hooked on that one while she was here, she borrowed the GameCube, and is buying Soul Calibur 2 this weekend if she follows through with the plan.
Once you try it you can't stop. It's quite addicting.
I pretty much agree with most of the suggestions listed.
Most Intense Combat
-
Contra: Shattered Soldier
- Ikaruga
- Call Of Duty
Most Intense Story
-
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty
Most Intense Atmosphere
- Slilent Hill 2
- Resident Evil 0
- Half-Life 1 & 2
I haven't experienced much of the new school games.
ive also been waiting to play burnout 3 for xbox
it's fun, but it gets boring pretty quick. probably worth buying I would guess.
I don't get into too many racing games, but I'd be interested in trying Burnout 3. There's been a lot of hype about it. I wonder if it's much different from the other racers out there...
it's not so much a racer as it is a smasher many of the "races" just involve smashing things and causing as much damage as possible, or taking a set number of cars out in a set time period while on a course.
and the crashes look amazing, it's a fun game.
In racing games I always crash and smash things, also when I'm not supposed to.
I like the Simspons racers on Gamecube.

I have Hit and Run for the GameCube, that's a fun game to play, it's much less like GTA than I thought it would be. you should check it out for sure if you haven't already played it.
