I took my slim one back because it wasn't working right. So I picked up the normal one and its doing just fine so far wish me luck!

So did you get extra credit because the slim one is more expensive then the original??I never would have gotten the slim one. I think thats what happens when people try to improve on things that are already good. The original PS2 had no problems so why go and redesign it for the sake of a few inches? If it aint broke then dont try to fix it.

So was the normal PS2 Brand new, also? I like the systems big, just as i like the original PS1. But then i bought a PSone, and it didnt seem Enough. It seemed so.. so incompetent

The only thing I hate about the PS2 is the fan it's kinda loud but thats normal since its stop my PS2 from over heating.

Yeah, the PS2 Where not very durable. Every single on of my friends had to replcae theres atleast once. As NES-Luke said before, nintendo is the only one consistently shelling out the good, durable products.

The biggest problem being the Disk Read Error that eventually occurs. It was so bad with mine, that the only game I could get to work was a PSOne game (at least it was Castlevania Chronicles), and NO DVDs or PS2 games would work in it. I ended up getting a new slim one here recently to replace my lost system (and get MGS3)

I had one of the chunky ps2's once... and the new slimline is 100% better. that disc read error crap is all over and my games load in 5-6 secs flat. ah, I love it. but to each his own.

I got a dead Gamecube I recently repaired that'd love to prove you wrong. As do 2 of my friends. My brother and 2 friends have dead PS2s. The only one I haven't personally heard major issues from is XBOX. Am I missing something?

Every product has its cons, but what do you hear of more? a PS2 kicking it or a gamecube?

About the same, really...My friends have equal parts PS2 and GCN. Might just be that as there are less Gamecubes around as compared to PS2s, and as a result you hear of it more. Not denying either system's greatness, just saying that from what I hear, they both have issues standing the tests of time. I owe my Gamecube kicking it in part of my getting back to my roots anyhow.

The old ps2s look awesome. I especially liked the disk tray, since I usually stick my game systems in cramped spaces to save space. The slimlines look strange and don't have those awesome green and blue lights. Someday I might trade in my slimline for an old system.

Im confused... slimline is #1! dont traid it back for that big old bucket of bolts.

I've heard about PS2's breaking down all the time, especially the very old ones (i.e the ones bought when it was launched) I had a GameCube that broke, the shop gave me all kinds of grief about giving me a new one, even though i'd had it all of one day.
If I were to get a PS2, it woul definately be a slim one.

My friend also has a ps2 and his dvd wont even work on it and he has to go through the hassle of loading the game from the boot up screen.

I think tommorow i'll have to pit my slimline and my friends old PS2 against each other, in a series of gruelling events! A battle to the death!

I knw how you feel. On ythe new dreamcast game i bought, it stops loading at 60% To hell with disc-based consoles!!!!!!!!!
