Don't mean to be a the new dumb noob that just asks questions with out searching. So I'm sorry if thats what I'm doing. I read the mod topic thats like 3 topics down. and I have read some about overclocking and the universal mod. Is there anyway somebody could be so kind and give links to where I can read up on this and anyother mod I can do to a NES. Thanks so much!!!

YUP!!! Some people are so quick to judge. I know lots of people just ask dumb questions, but when you get confussed what else are you suposed to do? I swear some people just look at the post count and assume that they are dumb!!!
I should add to this thread that I've done both the Overclock and the universal mod on my NES, and it works beautifully.
I'm looking in to overclocking a CPU-07 board, my current one is a CPU-11 board, and it acts up a little more than the one in the guide does.
Don't worry about that here, this place is pretty mature, it makeseven me mature (and yes I am one of those ppl who tend to say "STFU noob!" lol)

Hate to revive a dead thread NES Luke, but I'm curious of the point of a NES overclock.. Do the games run any better? I thought they wouldn't cause unlike a computer game the carts were programed to only reconize the original 1.7MHz clock signal.. Maybe I'm missing something.. Throw me a bone?

Games that originally have slowdown(megmans,
Super Dodgeball, kirby, + tons more) are in fact helped significantly by an old fashioned overclock.
Sound pitch is altered.
It does require some soldering skills.
Games do not run at a higher speed (it's not like you turned off the frame limiter) they just don't slow down as much.
I get the tutoral it's as simple as cutting the clock trace, soldering a wire to pin 29 on the CPU and installing/wiring a faster ocilating clock crystal. You're just basically jumpering a faster clock signal. Which would be awesome if the carts could be engineered to reconize the higher clock speeds. What I wasn't getting was how it improves speed cause the carts are made to reconize the original clock speed of 1.7MHz. Therefore I woulda told you that the slow down was due to very small amount of RAM on the PCB and the 8 bit bus. Info can only go as fast as the cart can send the instructions through the bus to the CPU and how much info can be prefetched from RAM. Hence the slow down.. Too much info is bottlenecking the bus, and not enough info can be stored in RAM to help compensate for it. I guess the only way I'll find out is to shutup and do it.. Either way it'll be fun! Wow, that was a big rant trying to disprove a mod that a whole pile of people have already done, and can vouch for (myself being one of them)
it does help, even with my minor increase (2.3Mhz total speed now) the slowdown in SMB3 is entirely gone, Kirby plays perfectly, the only thing I found that didn't play fantastically was
Rygar, when I was messing with Game Genie codes.
As I said the only way I'll find out is to shut up and do it...
