I had never heard of this, and found a link to it at NES World. Anybody heard of this?

Never heard of teleplay, though I knew of some modem addons for Genesis/SNES. That's interesting.

I hadn't heard of teleplay either, but I did know of a modem for the Famicom. it was intended mainly for banking and stuff, since the Famicom was a computer in Japan.

The modem in Japan for the Famicom was also greatly used for horse race biddings. And banking stuff of cousre, as Luke already stated.
I didn't know that it also came out outside of Japan. (But definitely not in Germany. )

the original nes had the funny connector on the bottom for a few different add ons that were never used (a networking like deVice to link it to other systems and a possible modem)

When I was little I always asked myself what those connectors might be for.

As you can read in the article, the Baton Teleplay system was never released. I wonder if the prototypes are still out there though with the packed-in game(s). I have come across an ad for the Teleplay system in one of my magazines that differs from the ad shown at NESWorld. My ad also has a slightly different Teleplay system pictured in the ad, with a plug in the front. So if these pics were of actual units, then we can be sure that there are at least two prototypes out there

any one know the name of the modem for the snes? i had one way back when, never really got to use it cuz it was on its way out, but looked cool with it, game genie and game on top lol

the X-Band was one of them, I remember seeing ads for that thing in magazines and getting so excited about the fact that I could talk to people on the other side of the word, and play SNES with them.

I wonder how good game play was with just dial up
