Four Score
Alright, I've got another hardware hack brewing in my mind. but it's going to require some assistance from some of you.
I'm contemplating (due to suggestion of a friend)...
wait for it...
An NES with 4 built in controller ports!
What I'm going to need from my fellow NESers is someone with a Four Score adaptor (ideally someone to donate a Four Score or sell one very reasonably), a camera, and willingness to open the Four Score up.
What I'll require are images of everything inside and out, as high resolution as possible, and images of the connection to the NES itself.
if anyone is willing to assist with this just reply in the thread, or PM me.
Well, I have the NES Satellite. I'm not sure if that could help you or not. It's the wireless version (why oh why that made that, I'll never know!), so I don't know if some key components would be missing that you would need to see. I'd have to borrow a digital camera, but that shouldn't be a problem.
that may work... I'm not sure though. I would assume it would be the same as the Four Score + IR reciever. if it's not too much problem I'll look at it and see if it teaches me enough.
Alright. It may take a day or so to get a hold of the camera. As soon as I do, I'll post them on this forum for anyone else who might be interested in the same
Goal you have.
good deal, I'll need to get solder and junk first before I can attempt it anyway, and find a donor NES to steal the ports from.
That's a
Super Cool idea. If you have any luck, I'd like to try something like that. I'll let YOUR NES be a guinea pig first, though. Ha.
I think the consept is a good idea, but I dont see u goin through with it. No offense but I just dont see it happening thats what the 4 score is for.
Good Luck if you pull it off, but thats a magor task.
the point is, I want to see how complex the Four Score is. if I can rig something up on the actual NES I'll be just fine, and I really don't think it'll be that complex. unless there are limitless ICs in the Four Score it should be a simple wire splice, and add a switch, there is room to mount the extra ports directly above the original ones.
Also, VERY few games support 4 players. Might not be worth it, unless you're REALLY into Super Spike.
one game.
Gauntlet II
also, it's worth it for the fact that I can claim to have an NES with four controller ports built in
and the experience and knowledge gained from doing it.
Ah... there are more four-player games on the NES than one might realize...
There are quite many 4 player games.
And your idea, Luke, sounds good.
I'm impatiently waiting for the photos.
oh, I know there ARE more,
Gauntlet II is the reason I'm going to attempt it. since most of the other games are lame sports ones.
The one that I'm interested in trying is
A Nightmare on Elm Street. I own this game, but haven't been able to try it with four players yet. This darn thing takes SIX C Batteries!!! Once I get my hands on those, I'll be able to see how well the sprites hold up (or don't) with that much action on the screen.
yeah, but sport is the best possibility for 4 players.
if only sports games were any fun... I'm just tired of them all being the same game with different sprites.
so did you say you have a Four Score? if so, would you be willing to take some photos of it for the good of my project?
I don't have one, i will buy one soon, but there are some games to play with 4 people, cool.
In Japan we played Super
Bomberman on a university computer
with !
This was so great. A US-Chinese-Korean-German
Bomberman battle.
4 player games can be great fun.

I find that TWO people on one keyboard sucks, how did you manage 4!?
It works. You just need to come very very close.
And sometimes you get elbows in your side, but man it's fun!
well, after doing some more research into this, I think I MIGHT have to just build a Four Score into the NES, rather than wiring it all up... I'll have to decide when I see some images from the inside of the Four Score.
