Need Help with an NES
Guys, last year i bought a NES at a garage sale for $5. It only worked with SMB3, so i just put it into storage . i bought a new 72 pin for it, and now it worked great with all of my games. but now suddenly, it still turns on fine and everything, but there are lines through the screen when you turn it on. other than that the thing works good. but i just took it apart, cleaned everyhing i could think of, let it dry and tested it again..still those damn lines. can anyone enlighten me as to what is causing the problem? I dont really want to buy a new 72-pin, cause my mom doesnt like "putting her VISA on the internet" ill just play my old nes with the broken springs.. but i need help!!!!!!!!!!
Did you try cleaning the 72 pin with Windex? It works like a charm.
Do you mean just spraying it where the games connect to the 72 pin? Because i dont have anything small enough to reach in there and actually scrub it clean.
the connector can be cleaned very well using a "windex wipe" folded over a credit/bank card then inserted and removed from the connector. But this requires removing the top portion of the case, and the upper RF shielding.
You don't have Q-tips? If not, I guess you could just spray it. I spray it, and use Q-tips to clean it up a little bit more.
Yeah, i acually have the nes opened up right now, i just cant seem to reach inside. ill try spraying t and wiping it the best i can
Well, if your talking about the pin, why not just take it out, clean it, and put it back in?
I DID. I thought i said that in my first post on this thread..
Did you clean it with Windex though. Thats what I thought I said, and thn you said you couldn't get in there, so I said just take it out again.

I didn't suggest spraying a liquid onto your NES... I suggested using folded over a credit/bank card.
i think i just found the problem. On closer examination, the 5th pin from the right is missing. Is it supposed to be? But i think thats the problem. i cleaned just as you suggested Luke, but it still doesnt work. ahh ill buy a higher quality pin this time. can anyone suggest a quality company?
That missing pin is probably the problem. Well, if you buy it on ebay, look for a name that says like "classicvideogames", or something that looks like a company. I'll try to find an example.
Edit: This is the one I bought.
