Favorite MMORPG
NOTE: Okay... I tried this before, and it didn't work too well, but now that tempers have cooled, I'll give it just one more shot.
Which is better (in your opinion); Galaxies, World of Warcraft, or something else?
Let's keep it clean, people.
i don't play either, but my friend plays guild wars and he says its way better than either one. he says wow is just bad, and its way too easy to get jedi on galaxies, and the new combat system makes it impossible to kill them.
Hey, maybe it'll work out this time!
Honestly, I don't know what kinds of games these are. If you could give a brief description on them (if only for my sake), I'll at least know what genre of games we're talking about
Well, it stands for Massively Multiplayer Online RPG (for those of you who don't know what is, it's Role Playing Game). It's just a bunch of people on an online RPG that run around leveling up, killing each other, or taking on various, optional quests. So pretty much, it doesn't have a real point, but no one cares, because it's fun.
Well, I've never played any online games personally. My guitar player and his friends used to though. What he told me is that most of the time there are ALOT of idiots on them, and that you basically get screwed by people. What him and his buddies ended up doing was setting up LANs and playing strictly to themselves.
Like I said though, I've never personally played any, so I'm not an authority on the matter.
Roth is totaly right. Nothing but people who want to argue and start stupid trouble on online games. Thats why i stopped playing them.
while I agree that there are a LOT of idiots on them, they're still fun. You just have the be the mature one, and completely embarrass the idiots
though one thing that annoys me beyond belief is being called a "n00b" by someone half my level...
I dont know if Diablo 2 is considered one but I was way into that. 3 accounts full of lvl 90+ charcs. 1 HC acc w/ a 80 something druid and a 60 something sorc. Man i loved that game!
D2 isn't is online, and is constantly being updated and being improved by people who work on it 24/7. D2 was (I believe) the game that brought online gameplay into the mainstream. Before that, it was only Everquest and Ultima Online, and neither of those ever extended outside a particular demographic.
As for the thing about people being jerks, Galaxies doesn't have . From watching my friends play Warcraft, Guild Wars, and Galaxies, I've noticed that Galaxies players tend to get along better (unless you're on the opposing faction). It seems that Galaxies requires more involvement (have you seen the item creation system? It involves surveying resources, and the game's stock market), therefore, the players appear (generally. I have seen more than a few idiots) to be more in sync with each other. Also, the age demographic is older. Preteens play Warcraft, for crying out loud!
Warcraft and Guild Wars are kind of ruthless, but the slight majority of players understand this, and don't really take it personally when someone kills them.
The MMORPG that's really dog-eat-dog is, believe it or not, that free German game, Tibia. Its motto is pretty much "no holds barred".
From what I've heard and read I'd love to play such games, but I can't bring up enough time by far. I'm too busy with university and stuff as to think of online gaming. I'm very interested in the possibilities, though.
Yeah, those types of games require a hell of a lot of commitment. According t my friend, the average person's life on Galaxies is as follows:
School, Job, Galaxies. That's it.
i always liked ultima online
So did I... to a point. I pretty much just fooled around for the short time I played it. I've never really been into MMORPGs, but Galaxies and Guild Wars have gotten me curious. Not even remotely interested in WoW, though. WAY too many morons on that.
I really don't like playing games online. And I don't like the idea of paying a monthly fee, though Guild Wars does not have this.
I just really couldn't care less about making numbers associated with a character get larger unless there is something greater behind it. I see my friends playing these games, and it's all about the numbers.
I wouldn't say it's all about the numbers. I enjoyed Guild Wars because I liked completing the quests, and interacting with the occasional cool people I found. collecting better and better armour and weapons. fighting larger and larger monsters.
most of those things stem from the number improving, but the numbers improving are also a result of those things.
It's a fine line between the story producing the numbers, and the numbers producing the story. Of course there will be player stats, it's an element of all RPGs. I just hate when it feels like you are doing things in game for the numbers only.
Did anyone play the BETA of Guild Wars? I did an i dont not like it at all but the real version looks nothing like it.
I've only played the Beta so far, though I plan to pick up the release as soon as I have a computer worthy of it
I loved the beta though.
You'd be surprised. While
Star Wars has no one giant purpose in mind (other than to kill the other faction), it has a of backstory in it, and thousands of quests to take up. You can seriously learn everything about
Star Wars from playing the game.
Besides, the point of it is the interactivity of it. As Luke said, interacting with other people , and especially the game environment, is a large part of the game.
