Movies based on Video Games

In Games

Ok, this topic serves a few functions. It's a place to:
A) Talk about movies based on games that you liked
B) Talk about movies based on games that you DIDN'T like
and C) Talk about games that should be made into movies.

I know there has been alot of crap over the new "DOOM" movie coming out, but please, go and see it with an open mind. If you go into it expecting it to follow something to a T, then you will be disappointed.(This is the reason why I go see a movie before I read the book it was based on)
Sure, some movies should follow a game closlely, but think about this: If a movie was made of a game, and it was exactly like the game, would you go see it?
Case in point: If they made another Resident Evil game that was based off of Resident Evil 2, and it was EXACTLY like the game, would you go see it?
I wouldn't pay to see it. I've got the game at home, why pay more to see something I already own? I mean, when it came out a year later and was on my On Demand serVice for free then I'd check it out just to see it, but I wouldn't pay to see it unless is was REALLY spectacular.

I always try and go see a movie on it's own strengths, and rather enjoyed both Resident Evil movies, but if the filmmakers don't want their film compared unfavorably to the game, then all they have to do is not name it after the game. I mean Doom: The Movie is basically a generic sci-fi movie anyway. They could have called it Alien Deathstorm or something, especially in light of the removal of the hordes of Hell.

If you're going to tie your movie to a game franchise, then movie makers need to realise that the name carries with it certain connotations of what's going to be involved, and if they piss all over those expectations (see: House Of The Dead) then people aren't going to be happy.

If they had called it that I would actually go see it.

I made a post similar to this. In more of a "What really grinds my gears" fashion.

They should make Resident Evil 2 a movie or somthin like that

The first Mortal Kombat movie was AWESOME. Second one was okay.

I just seen something on TV about a movie that started as a game. Doom. yep, thats right Doom is now a movie... W.T.F?!

Too bad it is based on Doom 3.

And I have known about Doom the movie for almost 1 year now.

....okay, its still gunna suck.

I guess there is a Bloodrayne movie in production. That has the potential to be pretty good. (If they elaborate on the plot of Bloodrayne one)

I thought the First Mortal Kombat Movie was great but the 2nd i really didn't like The Streetfighter movie also kinda sucked.

There are umpteen billion game-movies currently in production. Who here wants to bet that the Halo movie will be overdone?

The greatest video game movie ever made is the independent film "Karnov", bar none. It has cameos from a ton of NES characters like Megaman, Simon Belmont, Link, Little Mac, Mighty Bomb Jack, etc. I got a copy from these guys: . It's f***ing hilarious! Highly recommended. Doom looks cool too I must admit.

the worst video game movie has to be the Super Mario Bros. movie

I hate it when they try to change everything about a video game and try to make it more realistic! Why would anybody change anything about Mario Brothers?!

Man, I that movie. It was great. Definatly my favorite up to now... I haven't seen Doom yet.

I hope so

I'm now hailing "Karnov" as the single greatest film ever made that is based on a video game.

where did you get that Karnov Movie?

I would really like to see it!

Look .

I ordered it on DVD directly from galaxy454.com through PayPal. Highly recommended.

In my opinion the worst would have to be House of the Dead. I heard Alone in the Dark wasn't that great either. When I was younger I remember loving the movie Double Dragon and I have not seen that movie in years.

Alone in the Dark wasn't as bad as it was irritating. They didn't even try to resemble the game.

Doom was actually one of the better video game movies made. They definitely made an effort to stay true to the game. Just ignore the part about the-ten-percent-of-the-human-genome-that-no-one-mapped-and-is-really-your-soul.

Besides, if you watched it without expecting anything in particular, you enjoyed yourself. It was a cool movie, especially when the plot officially goes crazy at the end.

Wasn't sure what was up with the first-person-view scene, though. It seemed more of a House of The Dead then an homage to the Doom game.

We can safely abandon all hope on that one

Look just below the title... What's that? "An Uwe Boll movie"?
