What's the best NES game of all-time?
What's the best NES game of all-time?
I find the
Zelda series the best, these games are the reason why i like nes so much.Course smb series is the bomb too.
that is an EXTREMELY hard decision to make... there are tons of awesome games for the NES, I'd have to say more than any other console (with the SNES being a close second).
I voted FF, but only because I love the whole series, even the newer ones, the FF series was the reason I bought my PS2, as much of a mistake as that was. I need to find the ones from the middle though... 2-6 I have yet to complete. and I need to find another copy of FF for the NES, since my other one seems to have gone missing.
I'm choosing not to vote. The nominees aren't all that they could be. First off, it seems to be by series, not a stand-alone game. Secondly, if it is by series, where is
Ninja Gaiden,
Castlevania? For stand-alones, what about
River City Ransom,
Metal Gear, or Mike Tyson's Punch-Out? Not the greatest list to choose from, period.
Metal Gear isn't stand alone. What about Snakes Revenge?
This is true. However, I have a hard time actually calling Snake's Revenge a part of the series. Yes, I know it is, but it was such a different take on what Hideo Kojima was planning for the second one. I don't hate the game, but it isn't really top notch Ultra/Konami design, in my opinion. I do like the tank battle, and the way that you fight
Metal Gear at the end was truly innovative, but the side views were TOTALLY unneccessary. Oh, the mine detector was pretty cool. It was OK, but subpar.
Unfortunately, there was no option in the forum software for a "add your own to the list" with this poll. You should be able to create your own polls for exactly those things, though. You can call it "what's REALLY the best NES game?" or something...

Hmmm, maybe we could do it manually, it seems the members here enjoy the forum. I was trying to decide between
Castlevania II and
Ninja Gaiden. I think I'll have to go with
Ninja Gaiden. It set the standard for storytelling as we know it today in gaming. It had a high level of challenge, and awesome graphics. What drives this game the most, though, is the soundtrack. Awesome tunes! My vote goes to
Ninja Gaiden.
Ninja Gaiden - 1

How about we create a list of contendors for best game, and then a list for best series, and create two new threads appropriately labeled with the proper poll options?

I like it!
Alright, sorry, I'm new to the whole forum thing. How do you think we should populate the list?
Let's reply right here. The rules are the games that are part of a NES series are not eligable for best game. Note that that's more than one game in the series ON THE NES, and we'll add "in the USA" to clarify. Once we have a list, I'll create a 'sticky' poll that stays at the top so new participants can vote. I'll start:
Best Games List:
Final Fantasy
Best Series List:
Zelda Series
Megaman Series
Super Mario Bros. Series
Continue by replying with your suggestions for best series/best games nominees.

We need more people to post what they think. What about you Shifter2101 or Drizzt Do'Uden? Any thoughts on best stand alone game and best series?
I voted for
Tetris.
It's a game I play over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over ... (get the point? ) again.
All the other games mentioned are good, too, but if you ask me for one game I could take to a deserted island (with lots of batteries for a gameboy), I'd take
Tetris.
You should definitely add
Tetris. (please)
It's one of the most addictive game ideas ever.
I played the Tengen
Tetris first on an emulator. It's really very good, it seems to go smoother than the other one.
And the added multi player really made it twice as good with that feature alone.
Ah... we're still in the process of compiling a new list for the boards. We're compiling what the best game series is, and what the best game without an NES sequel is. So far we have:
Best Series
-------------
Dragon Warrior
Rad Racer
Castlevania
Ninja Gaiden
Zelda
Megaman
Super Mario Bros.
Best Game
------------
Final Fantasy
Rygar
Does that mean you would like to add the
Tetris series to the list? And, are there any others you would like to add?
Tetris sounds like a good addition, but let's make
Tetris a "Best game" nominee, as I don't believe
Tetris 2 qualifies as a real part of a series, as they're entirely different games entirely-- and for puzzle games, that makes it a totally different game...

I vote 'Mike Tyson's Punch-Out' for best non-sequel game. Or at least on NES it didn't have a sequel (unless you count that joke of a game 'Mike Tyson's
POWer Punch', but I don't think that was ever released).
The Most Games I always Played till now....
1. Konami World <--- Played hundreds time
2.
Mike Tyson's Punchout <----- Practice My Finger
3.
Willow <----- Bed Time Story RPG PP
4.
Strider <---- Cool
Strider Hiryu u'r still my idol
5. Phantom Fighter <--- Chinese Vampire Killer cool for me
6. N-Gaiden Series <--- Hardest game i ever played when i was 7
7.
Megaman Series <---

10.
Bionic Commando <--- 1st game i buy with my own money
and still many many more.....
You're lucky. My mom never bought me games.
Hey, The
Double Dragon series should have also appeared in the list. To me, that is the best game series for NES.
All of the mentioned series are good.
What if you had to choose one of them?
...
Densetsu.
...
That isn't stereotypical.
I think more people enjoy the first
Zelda and regard it as a very good game.
P.S.: Welcome to the forum, Yuuichi.
Zelda is my chioce too. I love the way you are thrown in the deep end and left to figure out what on earth your supposed to do yourself. Most (if not all?) action/RPG's since then have had villages where you can ask locals for help. In
Zelda 1, apart from an old man in a cave, you were on your own.
And the old man wasn't of that much help (except for giving Link a sword).
I need to replace the battery in my
Zelda cart so I can play it... I was leaving it on for a while, but then I wanted to play something else, and I had to turn the console off.
It's annoying when you can't save.
I had the problem with SMB 3 back then. No battery, no chance to save.
I agree, SMB3 is a great game, but without a password system or anything, it's rather tiring to sit and play though all in one run... I find myself playing for shorter periods of time lately, which is one of the reasons I'm getting back to my roots, these are games you CAN just pick up and play for a while, and have fun, on the newer consoles you have to watch a 30 minutes FMV cut-scene to know what's going on...
Well made FMVs can be great to watch, but sometimes they really can be annoying, you're right.
I want to play games, not to watch movies. (I like to watch movies, but not when I'm in gaming mood. )
...
I think my favorite NES game ever is
Batman - The Video Game. Why? I'm not even a huge
Batman fan (though I did like
Batman Begins). Because it's a great platformer, with fine music,
Batman moves solidly with convincing weight,, rewarding gameplay and spot on difficulty curve. The fact that it has
Batman in it is more or less irrelevant (and apparently Sunsoft felt that way too, because god knows aside from a few cutscenes, it bears practically no resemblence to the first movie)
Why should only the best get recognition?
Best Game:
----------------
Blaster Master
Worst Game:
----------------
Conan
Best Series:
---------------
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Worst series:
-----------------
Ikari Warriors
Why should only the best get recognition?
Actually, we had a long discussion about what should be included in the poll, not only the best got recognition.
