The joy of MAME

In Emulators / NES ROMs

Anyone else into MAME? Out of all the various emulation I've got to say that this is the one I find the most exciting. I mean, this gives you the chance to play games you never had the chance to play at home. I know if you're a real purist you can buy a JAMMA cab and a few boards, but that's out of most peoples budgets. I've really enjoyed going back to games I played in the arcade as a kid. Games like The Simpsons that didn't get ported to home consoles. Also being able to pile in credit after credit when you're a bit of a rubbish gamesplayer like me really helps!

And if none of that has convinced you of MAME's brilliantness then just look at how much sexier Karnov is (if it's possible for Karnov to be any more sexy) in his Arcade form:

NES

ARCADE

Wooo, arcade Karnov!

A friend of mine was once quite deep into MAME.

Perhaps I should try it, too, but later. Too busy now making emu-CDs for my Dreamcast.

As of version .67, I had a complete MAME collection. I haven't kept up since then. That was a couple years ago. Sometime I'm gonna have to buckle down, spend some time, and get my collection back up to date.

Aw man! MAME...

I remember when I got my first computer last year , and finding out about MAME when I got online. I was so excited about it. Playing the original Double Dragon and Satan's Hollow. It kind of sucked for me at first because my processor was so crappy that everything ran super slow. I still played it though.

Some of the first NES ROMs I grabbed for it were Tron, Magic Sword, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Sunset Riders. I remember snagging alot of others, but those were some of the ones that I really wanted to play again.

I think you're right Daynum, it'd be VERY expensive to be into getting a cab and what-not. That's pretty much what makes MAME so great... and the Simpsons? Awesoime!! I love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles feel that it had!

Sweet!

MAME is a dream come true. I have just about every game from my local arcade from a decade and a half ago.

I am the "Beat-em-up" GOD! I'll destroy ANY of them...
Turtles, Simpsons, Final Fight, X-men, Crime Fighters, Metamorphic Force, Double Dragon (but not part 3).

Having a PS2 style "duel thumbstick" controller is perfect for stuff like 'Robotron' and 'Smash T.V.'. The "dial joystick" games (Heavy Barrel, Calibur 50, Ikari Warriors) are easily playable when mapping the turning motion to the shoulder buttons.
I need get a cockpit in order to relive 'Galaxy Force' though.

Sometimes when playing, I'll insert quarters into my PC to autheticate the experience.
I make a lot of money off of myself that way (but for some reason I'm just not profitting).

I've seen websites where you can purchase Arcade upright cabinets to fit your own T.V. screen and PC components in to simulate the stand-up gameplay, and customize the dash for whatever style of controller (including motorized light guns) for the games desired.
Those are expensive though. But very cool.

DON'T PLAY THAT GAME! IT'S THE WORK OF THE DEVIL!!!
...

Actually I play it all the time (along with 'Tapper'). Very playable with "Arrow keys".

Yay for MAME!

Where did you get that Karnov NES ROM? It looks awesome and I can't find it.

Try this:

Mame is great. So many arcade games are so fun to play. Espically the Beat - em ups.

Just need a spare 8 gigs for all this to update up to .93. Seems like a lot, but if you're serious, it should be no problem. As for myself, I love MAME, I am currently working on building my own MAME controller cheap. I'll share my info later, but as of right now, I gots to go.

Finally got around to getting MAME the other day, and I'm Hooked. I love brawlers. Can't get enough of 'em. King of Dragons, The D&D beat-um-ups, Final Fight... Good times at arcades.

How do you configure it for keyboard controls? My idiot brother just busted the joystick... Still not quite sure how he did it.
