Wow. I've never heard of this. I wasn't even sure if emulation was possible on the PlayStation. Has anyone played this? I'm interested to know how well it runs. I don't have a playstation, unfortunately...

Excellent-- I was just going to look for information on NES emulation on the PSX/PS2, and you gave it right to me! I'll be writing a how-to on PSX/PS2 NES emulation, so I'll be sure to include this emulator in my article. I wonder how many others there are, if any...

The only console I've emulated on is the Dreamcast, just because of the lack of need for a modchip.
Same with me, I'm not too keen on the idea of paying some random guy to open up the console I just paid $200 for and void my warranty and quite possibly kill the thing in the process. or do it myself with all the same downfalls.
they made boot cd's for people who are not keen on modchips they do the same thing but don't void the warranty.

You can buy PS2's pre-mod'd these days...

Is that from Sony, or another company off the Internet?

Hahaha. Sony would never mod their own systems to get around their own anti-technology. The systems are available from websites and probably local individuals if you can find 'em.

ImbNES works perfectly on the Playstation 1. I have mine modded and I just downloaded ImbNES and about 2000 games. They are now all on one cd for my PSX. I can even save to a memory card. Very great thing.
You can even save you stats? That's not bad.
I wonder if I could get a mod chip for my smaller PSone... if so this is something I'd be interested in checking out.
I tried this too. I dont have a chip, but there's a swap method that works perfect with PS1.
Check out the Swap Trick FAQ so you too can play the oldies. (It works with PS1 ISOs too...Shh!)
My only issue with this was saving. It took one block per game to save. Other than that, this sucker runs games full speed with decent sound.
1 block... I'm not familiar with PS... how many blocks are on a normal mem card?
if I remember correctly, there are 15 blocks on a card.
That's not too much...
But that should be the least problem.
Well, considering that you can pick up PS1 memory card by the handfull at a pawn shop or something I think it'd be simple to dedicate a few cards to NES saves, 4 cards would give 60 save spots, depending on how it makes use of them. if it's one block per save file, then it could be used up fast, if it's one block per game, as in
Dragon Warrior, all three save slots would use one block. then it could last a LONG time.
Who knows how it is?
1 block per save or 1 block per game?
I had a modified PS1 and was good for "backed up" games. Of course that got stolen along with 2 of my game sharks. But they missed the coolest thing, its called EmulatorZ. Looks like and plugs in the back like a game shark does but yets you play gameboy, gamegear, and SMS
NES ROMs. Ive got no reason to keep it now so if some one is interested in it, shoot me an email.
oops want to add you dont need a modified PS to use it, in fact you can us it to play backed up ps games and might beable to use gameshark codes too i cant remember.
Plugs in the back of a PS1?
Does this also work with a Japanese PS?
I'd like to have that one, but no money left at the time.
Another problem would be payment. I live in Germany and have no credit card or something.
All I know is I'm saving for a Playstation now. I can get one for $25 and that'll be cool.
that's interesting, if you post some photos and such, maybe of it in action I'd be very interested in getting it.
Dont think I will be able to get screen shots, but I will look. It will take me a day or 2 to get pics of the thing it self, have to barrow a digcam. It looks like an older gameshark only with a different sticker.
This is the only pic I could find of it
And this was the only info on it
"Built in GB, GG, SMS, PCE emulator. (Run GB, GG, SMS, PCE format files on PSX)."
As I recall, it seemed to run pretty smooth, and you can add your own colors to game boy games.
is it?
and how do you get the
NES ROMs on the Playstation, just burn a CD? does it require a modded console?
As far as I understand you don't need a modded console and the
NES ROMs are loaded from a CD-R.
Thats the website I found.
Nope, dont need a modified playstation for it to work. What you do have to do is there is a button under the lidon the playstation, you either have to get a spring that fits on the button andon the lid or what I always did is use half a tooth pick and wedge the button down. You pul the emulatorz in the back of your playstation, wedge the button down, put a real playstation cd in, turn the
POWer on, the cd will spin for a second, then you put in a back up playstation game or cd of
NES ROMs, and your done, a screen will pop up showing all of your
NES ROMs, or the playstation exe.
sorry to bring this thread out of the grave, but i wanted to do the dreamcast-nes emulator, and i would have to buy a dreamcast in order to do it. But when i saw this, it says you need a psx that can play cd-r media. i have one of those new small psone's, and i wondr if i could do it without a mod chip? and if i cant, where can i get the "boot discs" to make it work??
Without a mod chip, you'd have to do a disc-swap, which still requires opening the console, and taping down the little switch that lets the console know when the disc cover is open. Your best bet is to get a mod chip. If you even can for the smaller model Playstation.
damn. scrap that idea. ill just buy a dreamcast..
I was going to buy one of the famicom handhelds to play my NES / Famicom games, but now I've got an even better idea.
You can make one of the handheld PSone systems from Ben's site, and run a disc full of
NES ROMs wherever you go without having to carry around dozens (hundreds) of carts.
PS and PSone's are nearly free nowadays, I bet you could pick up a system and a mod chip for under $50 if you look hard enough. (I haven't done one before, but you have to start somewhere.) I picked up a PS without any of the cords for $5 at a thrift store a few months ago, he sounds like a good candidate.
Someone said you don't need modchips to play DC backup games, is this correct? And are DC games region coded?
The best option for
NES Games on the go might well be a GBA with a Flash Cart. PocketNES works quite well. Granted, you won't be able to hold QUITE as many ROMS on a cart as a CD, but if you get bored of the ones you've copied, you could always reflash new ones one.
The biggest problem with using the GBA for this is that the screen resolution of a GBA is a bit smaller than the NES, so the graphics will end up a bit squished. However, combine it with the recently announced Micro GBA thing, and you have the SMALLEST... NES... EVAR.
DBP: No, the Original dreamcast doesnt need to be modded. but there was a second release and NES-Luke said that you can look on the bottom if it says (1) or (2) in a little circle. im buying one from my buddy in sudbury, when he comes down..
0 and 1 are good, 2 is bad.
