Holy Price Tag Batman

In Collecting

Ive seen these cheaper than this...

Yay, money!

To be rich...

If i recieved that in the mail ater paying 2000 doloars for it i would feel so crappy. damn.

Why would you feel Crappy?

2 grand for a peice of gray plastic? But i guess i wouldnt bid on it in the first place, haha

2k$ and still over 8 days remaining...

I think I wouldn't want to pay that much even if I were stinking rich... don't know for sure though.

Gold ones are the harder ones to find, those puppies would reach insane prices!!!! I think nintendo stated only 5 of the gold ones are in existance, used at the championchips, and the grey ones were only 450-500.

Does anybody know anyone who has one a gold or gray cart?

I know 2 or 3 people on digitpress do... there may be more

Anyone here ever had one in their own hands? Or even seen one up close and personal, weather it be behind glass or not?

Im only hours away from the person in the auction. Thats about as close to one as im getting for now.

"Somebody selling a game at a ridiculously high price, boy wonder?"

"Holy Polaris, Batman! The Ebay rip off merchant"

um sorry for askin but what a world champion cart thing anyways?

From what little knowledge I have of the matter, they were given away at the nintendo world championships in 1990, to finalists and also to "sweepstake" winners (I think there were 50 winners) it contains "competition" versions of Rad Racer, Super Mario Bros. and Tetris. Most are grey carts, but some gold exsist. Anyway they're rare (apparantly)
I could be talking complete crap though

I have never actually heard of these carts before. But I can see why they are extremely rare, if they are made purely for competition.

Thanks thats awsome

It's not their rarity that makes them worth so much. I mean, there are many one-of-a-kinds out there that sell for less. I think it's more or less the history behind the carts that makes them so desirable.

I can't believe a grey cart is selling for so much. It's usually the gold ones that go for $2000+ and the grey ones for <$1000.

I have the NES ROM and that's good enough for me.

You have to wonder how some of these people come into possesion of these carts.

it COULD be a fake for all we know and he could be scamming. Thats why i dont trust ebay. I didnt know it was so rare but i now i understand why the price is jacked up that high but thats still rediculous

So Nobody knows exactly how many Gold Carts were made?

Ive dug up a little Google info on the subject...

Lots of info there. They refer to the cart as the "triathlon cartridge" in the Aftermath section.

Check out the pdf's!

Good stuff.

Check out the intense gamer face on the kid with his finger in the air!

4,400. Golly gee gang.

over 5,000 and going

hmm... the last one of these went for less than $2,000 only 2 or 3 months ago. Either fake bidders or stupid bidders.

i dont understand why the dont just wait for lik e a hour left and enter a million bucks

That can be quite dangerous. If 2 people or more want the game and enter 1 million at the end of the auction, one of them has to buy it for a million as long as eBay won't quit the auction because of the high bidding.

If I was the seller I wouldnt give my hopes up seeing the high bidder has a feedback of 0.

I bought one off ebay 3 years ago, cost me $900, yeah its alot of money but I have it...

900 is cool in comparison to 5700 (at which the auction of this topic stands at the moment).

But I wouldn't even pay 100.
I have the money, but there are many better ways to spend that for me.

Think of all the other games and stuff you could buy for that much.....
I'd be suprised if they actually pay.
$5,700 with five days left . Wonder how much it'll go for...

any pictures?

any pictures?I would also like to see a pic of it

Another one of these is up for acution...

I think you would spend $100, if only for a quick and huge turnaround

Imagine just going to a yardsale, and seeing one of these listed for 10c? That would kick ass.

For 10c that would be a cool thing.

or imagine finding a Gold Cart for 10c that would really be sweet.

If you look at the questions at the bottom, he says he never knew they were so rare. He probably saw the auction for the other one, crapped his pants at how much it's worth, and immediately put it up for auction.

Since his ends second, I think he'll get more for it. He'll get all the frustrated losing bidders from the first one, so there might be some more aggressive bidding on his.

And the first ones ends at 6,100....

There are 116 of these carts in circulation, 90 grey ones and 26 gold ones. The grey ones were given out during the competition in 1990, and gold ones were given away in a Nintendo POWer sweepstakes.

The reason why people pay so much for it is because this is usually the last game an NES collector needs to complete his collection.

Only 116? That's quite rare.
But on the cart in it says "No.0283", so I thought there would at last be 283 of these... Obviously not.

Some people believe that there may have been as many as 400-500 grey carts made originally. This is because (as Manuel pointed out) each cart is individually numbered and I think the highest one found is in the 400 region. It seems unlikely that if Nintendo wanted to number the carts they wouldn't do it chronologically. This would mean there were way more carts made than were given to competitors and competition winners.

What happened to the others? Every so often an ebay seller will say something like "My uncle used to work for Nintendo and he gave me this" so it seems that a few were maybe given to/stolen by employees. Unfortuanely my personal opinion is that most of the extra carts were probably destroyed by Nintendo, as that's what companies tend to do with stuff they don't need. Either that or there is a big box of these lying in a basement somewhere collecting dust!

Im going with the dust theory!

Nes player did a thing on it, H says there where only 90. and like 26 given away. This one only went for 1,600!

Did anyone catch what the second one went for?

did he relist it? its the same guy that sold it for 6,100 and the same 3 pictures with 2 new ones;

Probably a bogus bidder!

Yes it's a relist of the same item due to the winning bidder not paying up.
