Media gallery
I signed up for some free webspace (awardspace.com) and installed a php / mysql image gallery for (of course) NES images:
It has right now 887 images, of everything from boxes and carts, to famicom carts, to consoles, to ads.
If anyone has a link to website with lots of additional images, I'd like to expand my collection and post it to the gallery. Really, I'm doing this so that there is one central source for NES media. Of course, until I start paying for hosting (unlikey) I'll have to only have images less than 500K in size. Oh well.
So what do you think? Is it moral for me rip images from other peoples sites and post them? I make no claim that they're mine but I do know alot of energy went into people scanning / taking pictures of their NES collections...
Nice idea. But if you take it from other people's homepages you should credit them or ask first. Some don't like their pics to be used in other places.
I love the ads section, btw. Some cool artwork in there.
Just a question. Was the image gallery software in Japanese? Because all the text (except the descriptions you entered) is in Japanese. Or did the thing detect my Japanese OS and thus chose Japanese for me?
Hmm you're right about the credit idea, a generic webpage with just a listing of all websites I've been on and taken images from would be nice (It'd be too hard to cross categorize and find out which image was taken exactly from which site).
The image gallery software, for me, is in English, so I suppose it must have detected that you prefer Japanese? I didn't know it did that, but neat none-the-less.
I just tried to view it, and got an error of too many connections:
Coppermine critical error:
Unable to connect to database !

After 2 minutes of waiting to load I closed it, but I would assume that I would have gotten the same message has Roth or something like it.
Yeah I got the same message as Roth, weird. Maybe he overloaded the server or something, free space can only handle so much before you get pwnted..
Yeah I'm getting that too
That's weird though, I have barely even begun to reach my max bandwidth or space quotes (database or files). Perhaps the hosting places database servers are overloaded. Try again later?
