Wolverine NES Review - An LJN game that doesn't totally suck!

by Ebo on Wednesday, October 2, 2002
LJN is not responsible for many good games. In fact, I can't think of any right now. However, Wolverine is a decent enough action game that you should at least play it once.
That said, I'll start with the cons. Graphically, this game is terrible. They claim Wolverine is the character in this game, but for all I can tell, it may have been Big Bird. While the level backgrounds are nicely varied, the characters and enemies on the screen are indiscernable.
There are many traps and challenges in this game, but the average player should still have no trouble reaching at least Trial 4. Wolverine isn't huge on challenge.
As for sound, as I sit writing this, I can't even remember the music. I'd go look for the MIDI file, or walk into my room and start the game, but it really isn't worth the effort.
One bright spot is the play control. For the most part, Wolverine does what you want him to do. In some places, however, the traps are so restricting that you can't really move anyway.
I realize that I make this game sound horrid, but it's really not. The backgrounds are interesting, and vary decently in each Trial, and the game is certainly good enough for some mind-numbing play.
I just wish when you used Wolverine's Ademantium claws, you could really tell...
