well first off its a cool game, but Its a little too short, too easy, too nauseatingly annoying to hear the sound of mario(jumpman)walking. a good game but definately BETTER with the sound turned OFF.
DONKEY KONG:6/10

DK rocks!
By I_Love_SMB_1996 on 12/9/2004 4:24:40 PM
Jumpman is a cool character. Pauline is not Princess Peach. This game is not crappy and doesn't suck, It rocks! DK won't ever let you get Pauline back though... I'm getting an NES for Christmas. Who likes DK?! I don't mind Mario' squeaky shoes, It's barrel Madness! Who the hell doesn't like Nintendo's first North American Hit from 1981? I thought Dr. Mario and Super Mario Bros. were cool too. If you wanna remember the NES, go to www.classicnesseries.com . The hammer was a nice touch. I love ya, DK!

The First Real Mario Game

Before the NES hit the streets, This game was always included with the Coleco Vision. I loved this game concept. I own Donkey Kong 64 which includes the arcade version of this game as a minigame. You only need one button to play.

.........ok..........
By Mr. Nes of the West on 7/15/2003 11:18:03 AM
This game is not 2 good. it should have stayed as a arcade game but its ok i guess. it whould b a lot better if it had more than 4 levels.

THANK YOU!!!

Chandra - Finally, I don't feel like as big a geek 'cuase I know that I'm not the only other person on the planet who remembers that the girl's name was Pauline. lmao.

Actually guys....
By Chandra on 3/29/2003 10:25:40 PM
Actually... the girl that donkey kong had kidnapped was named Pauline... She was marios gf and this is the first appearence that mario makes in any NES game... He was a construction worker in NY and a gorilla (donkey kong) got loose from the zoo and kidnapped his girlfriend (pauline)... Soon mario gets his own game and they change him from a construction worker to a plumber... but yea. her name was definetly PAULINE.

Old Favorite!!
By Shane-O & K-Lo on 3/15/2003 11:17:33 PM
This game is an old favorite and all-time classic, and it still kicks ass!! It's a little too easy, and playing the same three levels over and over can get tedious. All in all, though, you gotta' love it!!

6/10

ironman, the girl that mario saved is not peach. at the time this game was made, her name was Dana or something

How high can you mime? (don't search for meaning in that, just filling the space)
By Cuthead on 1/21/2003 1:03:05 AM
Actually, Ironman is wrong - only 3 of the original 4 arcade levels are in this cartridge. Making an already brief game even shorter. I'm a huge fan of point-based arcade classics like Ms. Pac-Man, Pengo, Galaga, etc. but Donkey Kong doesn't really hold up as well because a lot of it's appeal was in things that have been surpassed to the point that they have made the mechanics in DK dreadfully boring. Donkey Kong had a point system, but the real fun was in advancing in the levels, and a lot of it's initial appeal was it's realism (at the time). Given the length of it, not to mention the fact that most of us have adjusted to much more realistic (and fun) game mechanics and longer 'adventure'-type platformers, it's just dry now. Ms. Pac-Man may be primitive in presentation, but it's gameplay is timeless and addictive, not just based on the consumers amazement at the technology, as much of Donkey Kong's excitement was. It's still kinda fun and holds great nostalgic value to me, but it's not nearly as addictive as it's peers and Mario's later platformers on the NES immediately blew it out of the water.

It's Donkey Kong
By Ironman on 11/9/2002 8:57:53 AM
THis is Donkey Kong in it's origional form. 4 levels, each a little different. Mario has to save Peach from a giant ape. That's it.

What a revolutionary game!
By j.l.f. on 6/7/2002 8:17:19 AM
Only on Nintendo! This game packs so much heat, you'll blast an ulcer out your ass just trying to get past that wiley ape(the true hero in our story.) Yet unlike many other thumb blistering games, this one has a antripolary side kick named Moronio, which will keep you busting a gut out loud and rolling on the floor. Do the Donkey Kong and get yourself some too. I'd kill for that blonde on level4, she's HOT!

Yes...Nostalgia...But beyond that...not too much
By Hokum on 1/1/2002 6:41:21 AM
Revolutionary for it's time, moderate fun as a quick timewaster, but honestly this game is a little too short, simple and outdated. The controls aren't the most responsive, and Mario isn't very flexible or strong, and dies very easily. And the NES version is even shorter than the already short arcade game as they eliminated the pie factory level. In my opinion, Donkey Kong Jr. & Donkey Kong 3 are better games, though a little too short and simple as well. If you must get it, because it is such a classic, get the Donkey Kong Classics cartridge, which has DK Jr. as well.

IT'S GREAT, BUT THE SOUNDEFECTS DRIVE YOU MAD!
By Chris on 9/7/2001 3:04:07 PM
This a great game: climing ladders, dodging barrels that donkey has so kindly frown at you, wacking things with sticks and all! This game is fabuless, but the sound-efects stink of bull shit! As soon as mario starts running, the sound starts squeeking as if he's gotta squeeker in his shoes!

A must have
By Rod on 8/15/2001 7:19:09 AM
Man, i remeber this game.... simple but big and solid. Very fun, man it´s a classic and a must have... thanx shigeru for this one.
