Snes, better than Nes?

In SNES

When the SNES was released in the early 90's it seemed that everybody thought that it was WAAAAAAY much better than the NES! In my country, the magazines almost forgot to answer the questions that where asked about the NES. So here's the my question to all, is the SNES really better than the NES?

Well, the SNES did have more POWer, and the graphics were better. I would consider it the last good console. so in some ways it was better, but most of us love the NES so much because it was where we either got our first taste of video gaming or it was what addicted us to it.

That's pretty much what I was going to say. I would like to point out that the games on the NES were more fun, if not just for the way the colors were used on different games. I pay attention to the way a game looks by the colors used. I feel like alot of the systems after 8-bit tried to use to many shading effects before the gaming industry was ready for it. It made the games more dark before technology allowed it to look the way they intended. Some games just made poor choices. That's why I always thought that the game Super Mario World was perfect. Colorful, and didn't use to much shading to detract from the color scheme. I'm just sayin'...

the thing is the snes has better graphics and sound. at the time because it was a newer system it was better. but then the same thing happened with snes and n64 and again with n64 and gamecube. but years latter looking back at a time where systems are now far superior in all sound and graphics i would say that nes is better but then some would say snes is better while others would probly say they both suck. its all up to what u like really. and i guess it also depens wat games u play on them.

that last reply was me but i forgot to sign in

I agree about the NES being better. And you're probably right about the games that you like to play. The Sega Genesis had a whole bunch of shooters on it. Therefore, somebody else may like that system better because of the certain kinds of games they play. Good call!

It always depends on the people what they think is better.
And another question is, what MEANS "better"?
Not the consoles are good or bad, the software -the games - is.

I like the Snes and Nes about the same. Even though the nes is more nostaligic, Many SNES Games (Particulary RPG's) were so much more in depth than the nes ones.

I personally feel that RPGs should have stuck with the 16-bit ness, or perhaps 32-bit ness, like FFVII they could fit so much more game onto a disc that way. and also on newer systems they can go all out with animatiions and such and make a really slick game if they wanted to. but unfortunately everything has to be 3D now...

I much prefer the more classic looking RPGs with the top down-angle-view. That's why I love Suikoden so much. Games like FF II and III on the SNES is how it should stay, in my opinion. Like NES-Luke said, it should've stayed more basic, more room and less discs. The 3-D thing isn't bad, but I feel it's now over used in WAY too many games.

I prefer Nes ovewr Snes, sure the graphix are better but the Nes gives me more fun then Snes evr will!

The Super Nintendo is certainly the much better console, but I don't think its game library (or any other system's) can top the NES'.

Suikoden 1 - 2 especially. Suikoden III is a bit "weird" with its attempt at 3-D. I thought 'Xenogears' represented the correct way to do RPG's in 3-D however.
The classic 2-D top down perspective is still good (I prefer it more than those overused "pre-rendered" background games that 'Final Fantasy VII' introduced to the genre).

I like the SNES's game library more than the NES's.

But I love the NES, because it got me into gaming.

for me i believe that the snes had more fun games but the nes was very replayable

That's the reason why I dig the NES more. Once 16-Bit hit (I'm a poet and didn't know it! )!

Sure I won't tell her.

That's a good point.
I need short games from time to time. I don't always have 3 or 4 hours to spend on games.
But when I'm on holidays, there's a need for longer games.

The NES and SNES together have a very good mix of that.

yeah, the NES could only have so much length, due to storage limitations. I think the largest single game is Dragon Warrior IV, which is about 1MB or 8Mbit, Action 52 is 2MB, but it's a multi-cart, so I don't think it counts.

DQ4 is the largest.
Multi carts don't count unless one of the games on a multicart uses more than 1MB.

lol hilarious
yeah i belive just because of the replay value that nes gets my vote

to prevent everyone from just double posting, I deleted the other thread, and just added a poll here. so cast your votes.

thanks nes for putting my poll on here
makes it much easier

SNES rulz. NES ain't bad either

*tells your wife*!!!!!

i'd much rather play my NES, but i do like the SNES, the games i've played on the NES are much better than the one's i've played for SNES, also the NES just feels better to play

I still haven't voted on this because I just can't decide. There was a time when I would definitely have said NES but now I'm not so sure.

Just like the other NES lovers, i too prefer NES for the follwing reason:
1) It is more nostalgic
2) The games are quite short
3) There is no overdoing of graphics and sound like modern games.

What I don't like about many NES Games is the thing that you can't save your progress. I often had to let my NES on for a week or so because I couldn't save SMB3. I could only play An hour or so a day, so the only possibility to play through the game was letting the NES with POWer on over night and nights.

Yeah it's funny how times change. Back in the NES days it was common to have to play a game for many hours at a time to beat it. And of course when you died you had to start all over from the start if there was no password system. Nowadays if you have to play for more than half an hour without being given the opportunity to save it seems a bit harsh.

It is harsh, at least for me. I just don't have the time to play a game for hours every day. I prefer games, that allow me to play an hour or so and then I should have the possibility to save my stat.

Well depends. I like them both the same. Snes had the best RPGS of the era, and still do. Lufia II was one of the greatest RPG's i ever played in my life. On ps1 it was suikoden II. Those games were fabulous. But id say for snes itd be RPGS and lengthy. Im an all around gamer so i dont really have a fav....they both have their ups and their downs ya know? Btw i play sports games like once every 5 years . That is my LEAAAST genre that i play.

Personally I feel more addicted to the simplicity and greatness of the NES. SNES was a great console but aparently NES just seemed to have the more addictive games.
