Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen

In SNES

I manged to find a working copy of Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen yesterday, for only $20 Canadian. I've been playing it and it's really cool, but I have one question.

When I liberate a town, I received a stat reduction because I pulled the hanged man tarot card. I know cards are used in battle, but also give you a stat modification when you find them. My question is if you don't keep a card, does it still modify your stats, and in the case of stat reduction, is it a bad idea to allow this to happen (is it a big deal)?

Damn, ah... I think if you pull it at all you get a permanent stat reduction, whereas if you pull a good card you get a permanent stat increase.

Yeah, but I think you can use them in battle as well... might as well put it to good use.

Yeah, I guess the game just fluctuates in that sense. It's pretty tough though, I'm still really terrible at the game, and haven't beaten the second location yet.

I actually gave up on it. It just got too irritating, with the fact that the enemy can just keep sending wave after wave after wave endlessly, and it's a pain in the ass to actually chase someone down and finish them off. In fact, the whole game just seemed like work. Sure, I like a challenge, but I get tired of things like that.

And, while we're on the topic, why exactly is it called "March of the Black Queen"? I understand it to be a sequel, but I have never been able to find info on any Ogre Battle game before it.

Of course, my idea of 'research' begins and ends with Google, so I'm not very t.orough.

According to Wikipedia, March of the Black Queen is the first game in the series. It says there is a game that was not released in English, titled Ogre Battle: Legend of the Zenobia Prince that takes place at the same time with respect to the game's history, but it seems it was released after Black Queen. I'm not sure what the deal with the 'Black Queen' is because I haven't played through the game yet.
