British Shows
As most of you should already have guessed, I love British comedy. In particular, Monty Python, Are You Being Served, and Keeping Up Appearances.
However, being in America, I've only scratched the surface. For example, I have no idea what ingenius British show The Office is based on, and I would love to know.
So, as we do have a few Brits here, I was wondering if they could inform me of any Bitish comedy shows that they favored, and if there are any torrent sites that I could... uh, 'research' them on.
I'm not British, but in addition to the ones you mentioned I also like...

I don't know of any torrent sites because I live on a strict diet of DVD.
Some of my favorites are Red Dwarf, Monty Python, Are You Being Served?, and Absolutely Fabulous (though on the latter they have such strong accents, sometimes I find it hard to understand ). All funny shows.

Are you asking what show the American show The Office was based on? If so, the original was called The Office too. If you like that you should check out "Extras", which is what Ricky Gervais did after The Office.
LordJair, you and I have similar tastes. You listed some of my favourites there. Other greats are I'm Alan Partridge, Spaced and Phoenix Nights.
The most talked about comedy of the last couple of years is Little Britain, which has a similar feel to Python if that's what you're into.

Alan Partridge is great. As is Father Ted. Peep Show is also good.
Forgot about Father Ted, that's a great show. Peep Show also gets a thumbs up from me.
If you liked Shawn of the Dead and The Office, then you will also like Spaced.
Yes Shaun of the Dead is basically Spaced with zombies. Even half of the actors are the same.

Well, since the BBC is going to start broadcasting in America, hopefully they'll play some of these... or Fawlty Towers, perhaps?
If you like Monty Python you'll love Fawlty Towers, it has some of the same actors!
I love John Cleese with a passion. The way he acts, the way he delivers, his timing... awesome.
Huzzat?!?!?! I s'pose it's going to be on cable, which I don't have, but nonetheless, this is good news as I love British shows.
Speaking of that, I picked up some original Mr. Bean shows and some Benny Hill DVD's a few weeks ago and forgot to post it in the DVD Finds thread .
BBC's recently stated that they want t broadcast here, and do a morning news show speciically aimed at America, as well as later showing programs like Black Adder. They said they don't want huge ratings, just a decent sized, loyal following.
And they shall get it, at least from this viewer. Have you ever seen the Poldark series? It's regarded by a lot of people as a British soap opera, but it's got lots of action and a good story line, based on the novels by Winston Graham. It was made in the middle 70's and is set in Truro, Cornwall, etc. 17th century England, they must have spent a fortune on the wardrobes!
What about BBC America? I was watching that whan I was in the USA a couple of years ago. It was showing some great BBC shows. Or is this new thing something different?

Well, my father gets BBC on satellite right now, they're talking about making a network specifically for America, a moring show included. Unless I'm pathetically behind the times, though I only saw the Digg article a few days ago.
