Where is it?

In Off-topic

Where's the recent forum topics colom gone? That's pretty much all I read in the forums bit.

It seems as though is slowly disinegreting. The NES ROM's are gone, now this.

I didn't even realize it, but it's true.
I usually don't look at the front page, the nesfiles have quite changed...

I noticed that too, probably on Monday (I think) I thought it was a nice feature to have, as you could check the most recent topics quickly (which was obviously its intention)

Yeah, whatever did happen to the recent topics part on the front page? Derek take it out or something?

The little plug has always been there, it was for Bluehost before.

The NES ROMs disappeared for copyright reasons, same with the recent topics...

As for it being an equal trade... the site is dkalweit's to do what he likes with. it's not as if you gave anything up...

What I don't understand is the recent forums... Why does it infringe copyright?

Because that's what the ISP whined about... Don't comply, don't have a website... take your pick...

Oh, well. I guess they have their reasons.

How do all of those other NES ROM sites stay up without getting their site killed for copyright laws?

I bet they have their servers somewhere far away, where they haven't ever even heard of something like copyrights.

It's kinda lame that the game makers are all huffy over NES ROMs of their games. It's not like they are manufacturing them for people to buy.
Don't get me wrong, I'd be kinda peeved if someone was ripping off my work but they also are the ones at fault for not making their work readiliy available.

Actually, they are. On GBA you have compilations of Atari games and also the Classic NES Series. You have systems that get the Sonic Series from Genesis all on one disc, Arcade game compilations, more Atari compilations, etc. etc. They're putting alot of stuff out there for sale from back in the day.

But that's just a small fraction of what there is.
And Murphy's law says: You won't find the game you want on a compilation disc.
If it is on the disc, the button layout will be the other way round so that you can't play it properly. Right, Roth? (Didn't you have such an experience with your Megaman collection?...)

Ha! Yeah, that's true, sometimes they'll screw them up. What I'm saying though that the games are being released, and are out there. That's the reason for some companies throwing a fit about it. Sure there's not ALL of the games out, but as more games become considered classic, more will be released. It's pretty much like a book company re-printing their books and putting them out in a set. Not much different at all.

About not finding the game you want on a compilation disc though, I found Rastan the arcade game on a compilation... I'm VERY thankful for that

The copyright for printed texts expires after 70 years of the author's death (I think). I just wonder is it the same with games? Do we get a lot of free games in about 100 years?

I want a compilation with all of Square's and Enix's SNES RPGs on it.

This might sound stupid, but Nintendo doesn't exactly lose anything if people download NES ROMs for example, because they don't sell and publish them any more. If you buy NES games on E-bay, you buy them from owners, who's already bought the items (probably a long time ago).

The same with all te other old console games, if you download Game Cube ROM's, well...That's another story, isn't it?

At least that's my opinion.

That's more or less what BarbieJenniGirl said.
But it's also true, so I think they shouldn't be so picky about it.
Its not like Nintendo themselves came and gave Derek crap about it, did they?

I don't know if you knew, but selling used games is basically forbidden.

Of course Nintendo doesn't loose anything, but the games are still the companies' property and downloading them for free is somehow like stealing them... that's the theory, which does not prevent me from doing it.

He, he, it doesn't prevent me from doing it either. I knew that it is forbidden to sell old games, and I know the theory, but I still don't understand why they have to make it forbidden...People should have the right to download old games that is otherwise hard to get as a cartridge, at least for some people.

I guess that like the situation is like now, I'm just going to have to accept Nintendo's meaning of this matter. I'll download NES ROMs if I want to anyway.

Hit the nail on the head there. Unfortunatley, Human beings always have find something really stupid to complain about no matter what it is. Even old games that arent even in production anymore.

They might have done. I remember some Nintendo big boys with virtual Baseball bats giving Martin from Nes World grief over some content on his site a few years ago.
