Free Website Making...

In Off-topic

have the following

= (same as above) http://.gameteccorp.com
..com

That rules out freewebs, because it uses

well, you could always use geocities or something like that and register the site name to where you type in . i'm not sure if it's free or not, but i know Slushie used it for his site NES News

the name is just an example

that's the thing i want a free account. I have no money (im only 13)

i can't think of any hosting sites that will give you a free .com.... it'll always be

i use geocities for my site. sure the ads suck, but it's the best (and easiest) free hosting site

well, currently im using

something called 9k and im using it to make my website. Im bearly starting

I suggest geocities. look at campkills site. thats pretty damn professional for a free server.

thanks man! it helps when you know html. the "page builder" that free sites offer don't really give you alot of options. you gotta do it yourself for it to look right

You can get a free .tk from here, short and easy to remember. It still may not be .com, but beggars can't be choosers. Besides, gaming sites seldom do get big enough to be worth the money they cost. Your best bet is to use free serVices and wait until you have a decent site built to make the step to something bigger and better.

thanks shark, ill use tk and 9k until i find something better

Gah! 9k=evil...

If you learn html, you can take advantage of some free hosts. Freewebs (the advanced one) is probably the easiest/best free html host. It doesn't flud the pages with ads... you can even take off the freewebs ad at the bottom with the advanced freewebs. It's a real good deal. If you don't want to learn any html, I suggest Geocites too.

NES-Dude! DOn't change your name to nez! go back to NES-Dude!

If you're seriously interested web design then running your own server would be a great time to learn..
THere are plenty of windows options for that on downloads.com, they're mostly fairly simple and easy to learn on.
The key factors are if you have a good connection, if you're going to bend the Contract of your ISP, if you have the computer POWer (probably not a big deal unless you're going to attract a huge number of people).

Even if you have a dynamic IP address there are options out there for you.

The major drawback is not having a name to send people to, rather you'll have a dotted quad (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx). This is easily resolved by having a redirect or splash page (if you dare) from some geocities site. So you could grab geocities/nesNinjaKid (or something) and have a zero second delay to redirect.

Or you could avoid the redirect, and host your site on both your machine and on geocities and either tell people to try link A (your server) and if it's a no go then use link B (geocites). This can also be accomplished with scripts so that it decides for the user.

Hosting your own server also makes your system more vulnerable than it already may be.

For actually building webpages learn to use something like the "Lorenz Graf" tool which doesn't do everything for you. And you can use the "Dreamweaver" application if you want the program to do more for you. I don't think either are free. But if Lorenz Graf is still available there is a trial version. Not sure about the macromedia stuff. I recommend being able to write these in notepad (or metapad).
The best way to learn how to make webpages is to take the source code of a site you like, start with simple pages, and take the code into your own space and learn how to 'leech' images (get the image to appear on your site without have the image in your own directory space) and get an idea of relative and absolute image locations. Then edit these pages learn where and why certain tags are used. Hack up a page, for fun. Don't steal the content or information.

You may or may not want to take my adVice. You may not need it. Take care. Google anything and everything. And also
is your friend
