How come my GIF looks awful in color?

I've seen GIFs with perfect color!

The program i use is CoffeeCup GIF Animator.
Can anyone suggest a different program?

Thx

Adobe Illustrator makes exporting animated gifs while keeping color and size down very easy. I'm sure you could download a free trial version, you may or may not need Photoshop, they come coupled together in retail versions.

As far as quick and easy downloads go, I have no idea which program to use...i just use adobe.

The is really only good for putting your finished images together as frames.

For the images themselves, you need to optimize them first with a pic editing program (Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, etc.) to reduce the number of colors to 256 max. Usually fleshtones and earthtones don't convert to well, so don't expect perfection from an image that was originally 16 million colors.

I used CoffeeCup to make my (the one where I stole everybody else's) a few months back. It gets the job done.

EDIT: You can also use the free program for color conversion/reduction.

Is that yourself in that GIF?

Nope
