Mothers Against Videogame Addiction and Violence...

*no comment, just stupefied and angry*

A lot of what they write is true...

Perhaps it's a bit too much to compare it to drug abuse, but, hey, the part with the clans and stuff is true.
Today's main marketing strategy seems to be "let's pack more violence and blood in". I think that's a really questionable matter...

Though, I wouldn't buy a MAVAV tshirt...

Things have changed since the Nes days.

And the question is whether this is a good thing or not.
Of course times change and there's nothing bad about that.
But I think there's a borderline between what's ok and what's not ok in videogames. And we've gone over the line already.
When killing people is declared as "cool" and the only way to end the game, I can't say that it's a good thing.
Violence and blood is ok, but too much and in unappropriate ways it just isn't justifiable any more.
That's just my 2 cents.

Indeed what your saying is true!

Cool. It's good to see that you think this way.
And nobody understand me wrong, I'm not against violence and even blood in games. It's just that too much isn't good.
And the "type" of violence is important.
I don't know if I can make my point clear enough...

I think violence and video game addiction are not part of the same chapter. It is indeed true that video games can cause children to be violent. But this is not the key factor. I mean, what about serial killers, they haven't picked up their attitude from gaming, rather due to some other social reason.

My suggestion would be, games should be rated just like movies( although some rating exists, but they are hardly employeed since the purchaser of the games are mostly adults).

my suggestion to the whiny mothers is to shut the hell up and look at the ESRB rating.

THE GAMES AREN'T BEING MARKETED TOWARD YOUNG CHILDREN!

most of them won't even be sold to young children. the parents need to do a little thing known as parenting, and research the games their children want.

"OH MY GOD LITTLE TIMMY, GTA IS MUCH TOO VIOLENT FOR A 4 YEAR OLD!!! I'M GOING TO WHINE AND COMPLAIN AND RUIN IT FOR THE PEOPLE THAT ARE ACTUALLY OF AGE TO BE PLAYING IT, BECAUSE I WAS TOO STUPID TO EVEN LOOK AT THE BOX WHEN I BOUGHT THIS FOR YOU."

that last statement pretty much sums it up.

again, excuse my ranting, but this is an issue that I'm incredibly tired of reading about.

I have to agree with Luke at some level. The label does have on it E, E8, T, and M. The mother/fathers should look at the game label. Then they should look at the back and see why its rated that. I was at ebgames, and this little 8 year kid wanted GTA:SA, and his mom said, "what is it rated," and the kid said, "E"!!!!! The mom believed him, and when the store guy said, "Just to let you know, this game is M, " she was talking on her cell phone! Parents need to keep track of their kids.

Exactly if the parents dont want thier kids being exposed to those games then they SHOULDNT BUY THEM!! But instead they can complain about violence and blood and gore. And another point is is that even if little Timmy's mom wont buy him GTA-SA he will STILL PLAY IT at a friends house or cousins or uncles!! We all have done that, if we couldnt play a game we would find someone who could and play with them. So my overall opinion is THE END

The ratings should be made compulsary.
In Germany, games rated "18" arend allowed to be sold to people under 18.

I don't agree with one thing.
You wrote the games arend marketed towards young children. (younglings...

But still, of course, the parents should look at what they buy.
How stupid can one be?
The last day I saw a mom buy Halo for her 7 or 8 year old boy.
And those are the ones that complain afterwards...

Some of you may hate me for this, but so be it, you are entitled to your own opinion. I think violent videogames, in moderation, are good for letting out aggression. I buy wrestling videogames. I hate wrestling, but I love the video games because when I have a bad day I can come home and take my anger out on a computerized thing with no feelings rather than another human being.

I believe in the U.K games carry the same ratings system that is used for films and D.V.D's. It's illegal to sell a 18 rated film to say, a 15 year old, so, in theory, it should be illegal to sell GTA (an 18 of course) to a 15 year old. However, in practice, this never happens, mainly as parents never take notice of the age rating.
About a year ago a 14 year old who was obssessed with "manhunt" killed his friend and, after that, retailers were keen to enforce the ratings, but now they seem pretty slack about it. It's a shame it took such a tagedy to make retailers to actually take note.
I don't feel that I agree with all of what MAVAV believe but they are entitled to thier own beliefs.

Well, I love wrestling. I efed though...it lets me get out aggression and work on my love of writing too. Try it, it's fun!

Back on topic...I don't let my son play anything on any of the newer systems. We've got an emu comp with all the oldies, and that's all I let him play games on,period. I will say this....I use taking away the video games as a punishment for getting in trouble at school. My six year old looks like someone coming down off a cocaine rush, he flops and begs and screams like he'll die without mario for one day, lol.
