DVD Collection

In Off-topic

Is anybody out there who is collecting DVDs, besides of NES and other video games)?

I like moves very much and I have a nice little DVD collection of about 220 discs.

You can take a look at it here.

Haven't updated it for quite a while, so it stuck at 200.

What kind of movies do you like?

Ah... looks like I'll have to make another list! We haven't had cable for YEARS, so we started purchasing seasons of TV shows. I'll have to make that list, then post it...

Movies I like? I like alot of Indy movies, but I haven't seen any lately. Movies like Pi by Darren Aronofsky, and Momento (that's an awesome one!). I'll get back to you...

I would like to buy more DVDs and games but I have to save money for my trip to Japan this September.

I heard of the movie Memento, but didn't happen to see it yet. Maybe I should. (Should I?)

I find that seasons of TV shows are too expensive... they always seem to be like $50+

Yes. It's about a man who lost his permanent memory, and can only remember things that happened about five minutes ago. He's looking for the person that killed his wife, and gave him his condition. He has to leave himself notes (in the form of sticky pads, tattoos, etc.) to remind him to do things, and of stuff that he discovered about the killer. It's a really different kind of plot, and has a killer ending to it... Check this one out, trust me! When you watch it, pay attention to the part of the woman sitting in the car waiting for him to... well you'll see. That's the most evil stare I've ever seen in my life!

Yeah, we usually stock up around tax time, along with NES Games!!!

It's cheap in America.
E.g. you can get the Simpsons boxes for about 32$ at amazon.
Here in Germany you pay 50Euros. That's around 65$ at this time.

I already thought of importing Simpsons and Futurama seasons from America. It takes ages here in Germany to come out and then the boxes are overpriced.

I'll try to get "Memento".
I like stories where they lead you on a false track and then wham you with the unexpected ending.

Well I own quite a few movies (about 300), and have 5 seasons of Star Trek TNG.

Favorite DVD: The Rocky Horror Picture Show 25th

I have The James Bond Collection, Vol. 1 - 3, Star Wars Trilogy, The Adventures of Indiana Jones, and a bunch of single movies.

Speaking of Star Trek... I want to have the first seasons of Enterprise, but they are so damn expensive. They are like 90 Euro (118$) for one box.

Does anybody of you know Thumbtanic and the other thumb movies?
I need to get this on DVD. I already have Thumb Wars. (I love Steve Oedekerks movies)
Unfortunately it seems to be sold out in Germany.

He was the one that did "Kung POW: Enter the Fist", right?

if so, I might have to check out some of those, I loved Kung POW

Kung POW is great!
I just say
weeweewee.

My son (3 yrs) is a big Bruce Lee fan. I had figured since he liked Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, he would like Bruce. YEP! He absolutely loves Bruce Lee. I was able to find him Return of the Dragon (VHS) for only a couple of bucks at a video store used! He also has Fist of Fury, and the scene from Game of Death w/ the real Bruce Lee in it. It's cool that he likes stuff like that, let's me relive my childhood!

lol i own a total of 2 dvd's (how sad)
Degrassi the first season and the legend of boggy creek

Oh that's a cool thing to hear! A 3 year old Bruce Lee fan.
I hope this won't make him violent.
What about Jackie Chan? He is funny. Won't your son like Jackie, too?
(I have about 60 Jackie Chan movies in my VHS and DVD collection)

Never heard of those!
... need to google and amazon...
That rings a bell. I have heard of Degrassi. It was on TV years ago. I didn't get a chance to see it, though. It was on satellite TV and we didn't have satellite at that time. Just saw some pics in the TV magazines.

Yeah, I own all of 5 DVDs myself. I have: Queen of the Damned, Dawn of the Dead, Evanescence- Anywhere but Home, Korn- Live at CBGB's and Austin POWers: Gold Member. All of my movies are awesome. I want to get the Futurama seasons though. That show is great.

I bought Goldmember used 1 month ago. It's so hilarious, I love it.
I also got the "Daddy wasn't there" mp3 from the internet.

You should definitely get Futurama. I'm watching it all the time (when I have the time )

Dawn of the Dead is like my favorite movie ever... need to get it
Evanescence-wanted to get it badly
and i want futuram too lol

yah wow im surprised uve heard of it in germany its made in canada and i thought it only was in us and canada oh and its Degrassi the next generation now whole new show but the adults are the ones from the old seasons in early 90's late 80's

Nearly everything that's successful in the US comes to Germany some time later.
Also the bad ones ... Beverly Hills or something... that sucks.

Are you talking about Beverly Hills 90210? I used to love that as a kid.

lol thats what i was wondering if thats what hes talking bout... i really didnt watch it much but lots loved it

It was a big hit here in Germany, too.
If you think about it, it's a very stupid series.
In the end, everybody of the girls was at least once the girlfriend of nearly all the boys... Such weird love stories about snobbish young people who have too much money is not what I'm interested about.
I don't want to offend. If there's someone who likes it, I'm ok with that.

I also like things others don't like. The same rights for everybody.

Is anybody here who likes the comedy "Home Improvement"?
I saw that the first season is finally out on DVD in the US.
If it doesn't come out in Germany I will have to import it from America. I like it so much!

I used to watch it frequently, but that was so long ago I don't know if I'd still like it or not...

It's still on German TV and I watch it every time I can.
Although I already know all the gags I can still laugh about them.

I'd like to see the show in the English original. Until now I only know the German dub (which is not bad).

Yes, Home Improvement is a great show! I used to crack up all the time when I would watch it! It was one of those shows that got better with age and didn't stagnate...

To manuel - I've also been wondering, is David Hasselhoff really a big hit in Germany? (guy from Baywatch, Knight Rider)

That was the best show ever, I used to watch it ever day, I still do watch it when I see it on. Although I don't look at the TV too much...

That was the best show ever...

Then you might be interested to know this..

I just recently found out about it, though I guess it's been out since August of last year. Kitt was the coolest!

that's interesting, but much too expensive, as with most DVD seasons...

He a big hit, with Knight Rider and Baywatch, of course.
His singing wasn't that appreciated (of obvious reasons ).

I also loved Knight Rider! I watched every show together with a friend and then we would play it ourselves. Kitt became a bicycle...

Home Improvement really got better by the time.
Last week I saw the episode with the "men's toilet", where they showed a toilet in Tool Time with color TV and fridge. That's one of my favourites.

No, he wasn't, not one that I ever saw anyway. The topic of Tool Time in Germany was going on, and I took the oppurtunity to ask someone from the actual country something that I heard, nothing more.

David Hasselhoff in Tool Time would be cool, though.
Wearing the same shirts as Al or so.

Time to revive an old thread.

My newest get is "The 6th sense". (typing sense I made a typo... snese... ehe, I'm too much into snes and nes and stuff perhaps... )

I really like that movie, it's very well made.

Best thing is, it came with a magazine.
It's now common in Germany that entertainment magazines come with DVD movies. Is there anything like that in the US?

The magazine including the 6th sense DVD I bought cost 2.99 Euro, that are 3.95 US$. Not bad, is it?

uhh sorry but no! Him on tooltime.... that would be weird.

D. Hasselhoff is weird, wherever he goes.

Hehe, I bought another magazine, with it came the movie "The 13th floor". A quite interesting movie. I recommend it. 2.99 Euro. Good find again.

Next month "Gangs of New York" comes with the magazine I mentioned in the first place.

New adds to my DVD collection:

Japanese thriller "The Copycat Killer" and drama "Transparent" for 2.50 Euro each.
Comedy "The Kentucky Fried Movie" (anybody knows it?) for 3.30 Euro (came with a magazine again).

"The Battle for Hakkaido" and "Sea Battle against Japan", two documentaries about WW2 for 1.99 Euro each off eBay.

And "Kakashi" (scarecrow), a good Japanese horror movie, for 5.05 Euro on eBay.

The NES stuff I made bids on went for thrice the price I was willing to pay.

New add to my collection. And this time it was free.
I seem to be luckier with DVDs than with games stuff.

It's a special edition of "The Leopard" () published by a big national newspaper.

I don't, but my brother does, and he has over 100. Here it is.
