Xbox 360 worth it without...

I was thinking about buying a 360, and was just wondering if it is worth it (in your opinion) without an HD TV, and online (online for now)...

Yes, yes, and yes. Although it is MUCH better online, it is still a good system. I use an old 32"CRT computer monitor on my 360 and it still looks pretty good.

Are they reliable. I always here about them breaking. I don't want to invest in 300-400 dollars in something, to have it break in a year or less.



The reliability is pretty crap, but that should be remedied in the fall when they start using the new CPU process.

But it doesn't really matter, there's a 3 year warranty on all machines suffering from the Red Ring of Death.

You should check if there are enough games available that warrant a purchase. If so, just buy it. They break a lot, but hey, maybe you get an ok one. There must be at least some people without problems.

Go for it. I've been playing mine on a "normal" TV and it looks pretty good.
I've had mine since easter and (touch wood) no problems.
It may be a good idea to wait until the "new" ones come out in the autumn though, for added piece of mind. I'm not sure, but they'll probably have the HDMI ports on the back too (but they might now)



Pretty sure all models being manufactured now include HDMI.

I'm in the same boat as Malon, I want to get a 360, but I'm afraid I'm buying a ticking time bomb(3 Rings). But Like Luke said went to fall, but then again he also said there is a now a three year warranty. But I heard it takes awhile for M$ to send the box, up to a month? Can anyone conform this? The thing I've been thinking was, should I either hype my computer with all the latest and greatest parts and get Bioshock, or buy an elite which would be hella cheaper and buy Bioshock. Some many choices so little funds..



I'd wager that you could buy an Elite, and an entry level HDTV for less than it would cost to buy the parts to run BioShock on the computer, at maximum settings.



The revised CPU coming this fall (as soon as they can possibly pump it out, as it's cheaper to manufacture) should remedy the 3 red lights issue, but if it doesn't, you have 3 years with it no matter what.

I can confirm that it can take up to a month. Mine was around 3 weeks. Expect to spend a while on the phone too... My brother was fighting with support for a few months, over several consoles. One replacement was in less that perfect condition, he deemed that unacceptable, as he shipped off a cosmetically flawless machine, and should expect the replacement to be in the same state.

PS3 took 6 business days from the time I got the box to the time I got it back, and they actually repaired my machine, and stated on the invoice what was done to it. Also, Sony support seemed to speak english, and actually listen, my only complaint is that the rep was a little too formal, almost made me uncomfortable. Quite a nice change from my experiences with the PS2. Sony is doing well to win me back.

I think you're right...I wasn't too sure, I haven't seen any (not that it matters really) but I suppose places are offing the "older" consoles first. Although if I were to ask (hypothetically speaking), I could probably get one with it

Only RROD, but if the drive fails after a year I'm sure you could get it to give you the RROD if you were so inclined. I know I would do it.

If ANYTHING goes wrong in the first year, it's covered. After that, you have 3 years for the rrod, like nibbyfase said.
