Shameful Sony Removes PS3 Emotion Engine.

In Modern Systems

When the PS3 is out in Europe and Australia this March, the units sold will have no Emotion Engine like the ones sold in Japan and US. Instead Sony will use emulation software to play back PS2 and PS1 games.

Sony is doing this to cut manufacturing costs but also functionality, as the new version will play fewer games developed for the PlayStation and PS2 than the U.S. and Japanese version. This is an utter disgrace especially the unit sold in Europe and Australia is more costly.

It is time to boycott Sony products. Go buy a Nintendo Wii and/or a XBox 360 instead!

In Australia they are jacking the price up..I don't understand Sony's Marketing Plan.

Wow, it seems Sony is really desperate...
I'd like to know how much the chips they remove save them.

That's how they screw the Europeans (and Australians). Remove hardware, thus deteriorate the product, AND charge more money for it. Yay globalism.

Good thing I won't buy that thing.

My hope would be that customers boycott Sony, but I know how deep that silly "brand loyalty" goes. And the stupidness of "gamers", who want the newest and shiniest stuff.

Last time somebody asked me about the PSP ("because it looks so cool"). I told her, she should buy a PSP if she wants to play PS2 games with worse graphics, longer load times for a higher price. She then replied she's gonna stick with her PS2 and 20 Euro budget titles.

Then I heard some guys talking about PS3 and how realistic and shiny those new graphics are. I myself can't believe what I did, but I actually talked to those guys and told them to get a 360 (they didn't seem like they'd like the Wii
Such guys can't be helped really...
How longer need people get rootkits, exploding batteries and malfunctioning hardware before they realize the letters Sony son't stand for the quality they stood for 20 years ago?...

I hear it's going to cost $1000(AUS) in australia. Whilst that may be an actual fair price (although I doubt it) people won't pay that much, mainly as a $1000 is a lot of money and there is the psychological turn off.
The Ps3 will still sell in great quantity though.

Maybe it's a "fair" price if you buy it as a multimedia center.
But if you only want it as a gaming console, it's quite a steep price.

It's also a grill!

Another brownie point for Aaron!

Its true. I bet after sony is finised with depriving european gamers of the best technology, theyre going to start making expensive addons, and unnecessary gizmos for their already stupid-expensive machine just to keep up with the Wii. After the XBOX 360 and Wii finish their run they'll try to milk this system for a couple years.

Sound familiar?

No doubt the PS3 losing it's near complete backward compatibility stinks for all European and Australian gamers. And I don't think it would be a problem if the price point wasn't so high, let alone, raised for some locations.

My buddies 360 just crapped out on him, and he bought it 2 months ago, but that's ok because the only game they played was gears of war and that game got miserable after the first 2 days.

You should also mention about the psp that it is portable, unlike the ps2.

Last time somebody asked me if I liked the WII, I said yeah, if i like playing wolf Zelda, games i own on other consoles already, playing games that were supposed to be out on gamecube years ago(i can just think of wolfZelda and that super paper mario, but it still is garbage), and rehashed DS games. and by the way, wario ware isn't a good game, nor is it 300 bad games in one.

Is that your hope? Do you hope that only for the enlightenment of the poor sony souls? or is that your hope because you know the ps3 is superior in all forms, and you fear it's superior POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!*

Well, that's my monthly post. I'm out....until I see another post that sparks the sony fanboy in me. ( i dont have a ps3 and wont buy one until i can spend less than half a thousand usdollars (which may be a never long time), i won't have psp until my brother gives it to me in 4 years because he won't have time for old games (just like his dreamcast, gba, and xbox). I don't have a virtual boy because I dont buy gimmicks.

*this sentence was meant to be taken with large grain of salt

Ha! That's a given considering the name.
Thing is, she would play it only at home anyway. So I really am sure she's better off with the PS2.

Not really. The Sony souls (?? wtf?) don't need to be enlightened.
I only hope Sony fails so that the console races tones down a bit.
This time it's 600$, next time 1000? The companies always go further with raw POWer only. That can't be the way of gaming. I don't say everybody should stick with "underPOWered" machines like the Wii. But htye should keep it at moderate price level. Maybe 300-400$ at the most for a new console.
BTW, the PS3 isn't superior in forms, only with graphics. And those don't really mean much to me. I mean, good graphics are nice, no question. But when I play old NES and SNES titls I certainly don't do it for the crappy graphics (by today's standards...)

Apparently, the PS3 sold loads this last weekend here, which proves there are actually morons whom will pay £400+ for a console, which is inferior to its NTSC counterpart.

Which tells us there are far too many people with far too much disposable income.
Even if I had the money I'd never pay that much money for a game machine.
Not even for one from Nintendo. My fanboyism goes only up to around 200$. I will never pay more for a gaming deVice.

From an on 1up.com interviewing Dave Karraker, Senior Director of Corporate Communications for Sony Computer Entertainment America, about the Xbox360 Elite...

It seems like anyone who bought the system that doesn't have the emotion engine is getting shortchanged.
