Resident Evil 4!!!

In Modern Systems

Haven't been to the forums for a couple days because my Cube is really getting a workout. Everybody must get this game. It's just totally unreal, but I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.

Anybody else picked it up yet?

ive wanted to play it although i usually dont go for the scary games because a lot of times they suck but i definitly need to check it out

For those of you who haven't seen what RE 4 looks like, here are some terrific screenshots:

I believe you are Leon in this game (though I could be mistaken), and it looks superb!

So when can we expect a full review?

I haven't been a large fan of the RE series, I don't really like the way you move the character, with the whole turn and then go forward thing... has this been changed?

The graphics I've seen for the game look amazing, but those could have just been cutscenes. Are the in game graphics anything like what we've seen on the commercials and stuff?

None of the game is prerendered. All cinemas and cutscenes use the game engine. The gameplay, including control and camera angles, have been completely rehauled. If you didn't like the old RE's, you're in for a surprise. If you're a fan, you're in for a surprise. Personally, survival horror is my favorite genre, and I've always loved the RE series. This game is seriously just too incredible.

hmmm, sounds like something I need to check out... and I do have a little money right now... NES stuff, or new GC game... choices choices...

Anybody else picked it up yet?

I didn't realise it finally came out! Looks like its time to go to Gamestop!

How many people got it already? How is it playing? Is it very hard? (Can also total shooter-beginners like me get into the game?)

It's not a shooter...

Of course, I don't know how you define shooter. The classic RE series is a third-person adventure (specifically, survival horror) with prerendered backgrounds. This game is fully polygonal with a unique over-the-shoulder third-person camera. My friend who doesn't play many third-person games had some trouble getting used to aiming, but he made it pretty far. If you're new to the genre, expect to die a lot, but the learning curve is very forgiving.

The first time I went through the game, it took me 21 hours, so expect to put some time into this game. I'm on my fourth time through the game now. One of the absolute BEST titles this gen, and easily one of my favorite games of all time.

Sorry, but for me it's a shooter.
You have to shoot lots of zombies, right?

21hours is quite long... is it because it is difficult? How many times did you die? (Did you?)

There's a special edition Resident Evil 4 Gamecube that's being released in Europe:

It comes with a bonus disk and other goodies. Looks like Nintendo are trying to get the Resident Evil fans Hooked on buying a Gamecube. I already have a Cube though so won't work on me .

a shooter.

The game keeps track of how many times you've died. My first time through, it was just under 60 deaths. My second time through, I got it down to about 8 deaths I think. It's challenging, but not difficult. If you're decent at modern games, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to jump right in.

OH, and there are no zombies in this RE. There are zombie-LIKE creatures, but no zombies. Technically.

60 deaths??
Then maybe I could do it, too. Perhaps with a 100 deaths or so. But as it seems to allow unlimited deaths... I really might get it.

That thing with the bonus disc and controller seems interesting. When I remember right, this bonus disc was included in the Japanese version, too. (At least in the first impression)

So I wanted to buy a new system. I went to Wal-Mart, and see Metal Gear Solid 3. Mine!! I've been dying to play it anyway, and I figured buying it will force me to get a PS2 so I can play it. Problem is, PS2 is sold out all over town!!! Man, was I ticked.

So we go out of town to a few places, and they are all sold out of PS2s!!! Now I'm getting even more angry because I really want to play this game. At this point, I need to get SOMETHING! My desire to play a newer game had increased. What do I see sitting there?....

A single GameCube...! I snatched it up, and immediately ZombieHunterX's review of RE4 sprung to my head! Went and grabbed that and....

THIS GAME IS AWESOME!!! I love the way the villagers walk towards you in this menacing kind of way. Also, I know very little Spanish, so them speaking adds to it being even more eerie! I actually got to some boss called El Gigante on my first sit down, and geez!!! They know how to make a boss fight!

Also, look for an innovative aquatic fight! Man, I can't wait to play more of this game! My copy of MSG3 will have to wait, it seems!

The zombies speak Spanish?? Funny.

Why don't you try to grab a used PS2? Buying a new one is too expensive and bad for Nintendo.

They're not zombies, technically, as ZHX said

Problem with getting an older one is the disc read error that's prevelant. I guess they just released a new PS2 design. I'm satisfied with the GC right now, though

I still haven't played the game, but it keeps getting rave reviews I think I'll have to do something about that. the 'Cube is at the girlfriend's place now though... maybe someone has one I can borrow...

Ok ok they're not Zombies, but they DO look like zombies and they speak spanish... Were there programmers or game designers at Capcom that didn't like the Spanish?

RE4 comes out in March here in Germany. So I still have the time to think about buying or not.

Good news for European players!

RE4 gets an "easy mode" in the European version.

If that is so even I might get it.
I read that if you're a bad player who makes many mistakes, you'll find more ammo and medicine and Vice versa. Interesting.

yeah I gots the gamestop tin case edition which is awesoime

Awesoime?

Itt wood bee kewl if peeple uzed correct orthograffy... and some sort of punctuation.
That could make posts more comprehensible, which is a form of respect towards other users...

Heh all ive played was the demo and i loved the new engine. The controls are ALOT better.

Resident Evil 4 is great! I'm on my 4th time through it . It is controling my life.

im and my bro and his friend played thru it in one sitting
23 hours
and were on the 6 or 7th time now

Well..i really want to get it now after hearing all this. Im a big RE fan but i havent played any of those side quests like RE GAIDEN ECK.

yeah Gaiden Survivor Dead aim thay all suck why did CAPCOM make them

To me some side money I guess, but they are really bad.

I've seen 'Resident Evil 4' in action. It's good to see that Capcom finally changed the style of the game. I liked the old style, but the constant running back-and-forth between the same locations to get the right prop to place in the right indention in the wall to make it to the next area while trying to control your character like an R.C. car in the changing bad camera angles was getting kind of old.

...

EvilNES pics...
Is it getting to guys yet?

...

It's because they're the exact same games that were on the Playstation, without any new added features or updated graphics... so in the minds of all the self-rightous "they suck now".

RE2 is good, in that old-school Resident Evil way. Never played 3.

'Resident Evil: Code Veronica' is the other "must play" in the series.

OH yeah i gots all and i love them so deary and 3 isn't bad but its the worst

...

Yeah, they're both still the same great games. If you want to get them, it all depends on which controller you like better. Also, I'm wanting to get them for the sheer fact that the RE games went to the GC, and I would like to have the entire series on it. That's about the only reason to get them if you have the one's on the other system; collecting, or controller.

but GC Dont gots Code Veronica

...yeah it does. The Cube has every RE game.

No way Ive looked every where Oh well Oh well. i got my Dc version any how.

Does GameCube have 'Outbreak'?

Or does that one not count.

no outbreaks or stupid survivor

Yup I own Code veronica on the cube. RE Code veronica X. Its a decent game but has no replay value except for those time trials wich i hardly play heh.

Sorry for making the other thread.

Man I love this game. I just can't get enough of this. I thought the Baby sitting mission's would be boring but, I was wrong! There pretty cool! I am not rushing threw this game so I can enjoy it more look every where getting every item I can get, I play a Chapter a day.

*pasted from other thread... don't read if you already have*

RE4 was a really cool game though. I recently got rid of mine for some credit at GameStop though. I had the GameCube version, and it looked fantastic.

The coolest part I like that they added was the dodging. L+R, or whatever buttons they would pop up on the screen. Pretty nice. I've heard they did something similar in... shi<i></i>t, what was that called? Oh! Shenmue. Never got too far in that though, but ZEN let me know.

The story was pretty cool in RE4 also. The new perspective from third-person is pretty cool too. Makes it alot easier to control than the past games. Overall a great title.

I'd really suggest saving the exploring for the second playthrough or later, Infinite rocket launcher/ Chicago typewriter = fun

I vow to unlock the handcannon one day...

Arron, have fun through your first time of RE4. But don't worry about missing things though because i almost guarentee you that you will play through it many more times to get all the unlockable guns and what not. The Handcannon is soooo fun!
