Revolution controller

In Modern Systems

Well, I haven't seen any pics of it yet, but there's an article here that talks about it:

Note: There are two pages to that article.

Apparently, Miyamoto dubbed it the "nunchuck" controller It "uses motion-detecting hardware to pinpoint its distance from the screen, location in the room, and even pitch and yaw..." It sounds pretty cool, and I can't wait to see the actual pics and actually use it. If anyone stumbles on some pics, post them here.

EDIT: I just found this link on the Digital Press forums

Some of the tricks you can do with the Revolution controller sound like they would make for good interaction and interesting game play. From the sound of it, "first-person" games will be ideal (look out for 'Metroid Prime 3').

It would seem though, that constantly having to "hold" the controller directly in front of the screen would lead to rather tired arms.

I still can't quite comment fully on this new type of controls because it's difficult to judge something like this just based on a review. I need "hands-on" experience.

I do like the idea of being able to turn the laser remote sideways so that it resembles the NES controller. Awesoime!

I saw some pics of the controller on the Nintendo homepage. I quite like the design and I hope it's easy to use.
(I'll have to buy the Famitsu this week to read more about it. )

i like it

not as much as the saturn controller

But i like it.

Hmm.. I dunno, it looks kind of weird. two controllers=One!?

Worst, Controller, EVER!!

yea it does look kinda weird

neat.

wow Rev controller looking sweet!!!

I agree with you 100%

Worst, Controller, EVER!!

How can you say that without even having touched it?
You could say "worst form" or something.

I'd like to try that out before making a comment about the usability.

...please no. if thats the controller then theres no chance Im gunna buy a Rev. that looks like total crap.

If you go for controller design, you also can't buy a PS3 ("boomerang")...

yeah and the 360 buttons look kinda weird,

I know, but I think Nintendo got really carried away with this one. I think before I buy ANY of the new systems I'll goto the store and try out all the controllers and see what I like best. but going off looks, the Xbox 360 has my buy so far.

That's the best way.
It also depends on what games you want.
If you want "normal" games with f***ing good graphics, then you buy a PS3 or 360.
If you want games with new, fresh concepts, go for the Revolution.

On the forums of a German IT news site I found a comment of someone.
It was along the lines of "controlling games with one hand? what do I do with the other one?"
And my 2cents: The new controller would be perfect for a new type of dating (

Its hard to say how I feel. Its nice Nintendo is making something new and fresh, but think about this......we'll never play a Mario, or Zelda game the same again....scary thought...

I hope they make some kind of controller to go with it, or maybe those crappy 3rd party devolopers will make one.

Yes you will, this will answer all questions for you.

Wow, that sounds pretty good! Swinging it to play Tennis, and.. wow! Has alot of positive things going for it. I like the normal controller idea ,too.

!!!!!!! I'm very happy now!!!! Can't wait!!!

That ign mockup somehow looks cool. I like the color balance.

The idea of sticking in the "pointer" reminds me a bit of the dreamcast controller.

I can't wait to see the official design and to even touch it myself.

Thats my backround right now because I also like the mockup. Can't wait till next year.

Has everybody seen the pic?

... I now quoted myself and extended the record. Cool...

I wonder what the price for such a controller will be.
Gamecube controllers were already expensive, but such ones...

On another fourm, someone said they'll probably be more than the GCN ones, so thats not good. What do you guys think the whole system is going to be priced?

Ha! Silly people

So, is everyone a bit happier now? I feel like everyone was a bit too quick to dismiss the controller. I'm willing to bet that it's more fun with the pointer the way it was intended for design. I think of it like the DS. I make sure that I play the games with the stylus, since that's the way the DS was intended to be used. I support the way Nintendo is actually trying to change the way we play games. It's definitely a step in the right direction. If the mock-up is similar to what Nintendo puts out, it will make an easier conversion for those not ready for the next step in gaming.... just as you can play most DS games without the stylus if you so desire. Good planning on their part.

I bet there will be a pink version of the controller (Hello Kitty edition or something).

And I'm of the same opinion as Roth. I think Nintendo has chosen a good way. This new controller will really revolutionize gaming again. Probably Sony and M$ will copy some of Nintendo's good ideas again like the rumble pack back then...

yeah, that mock-up is pretty dope. I kinda hope thats not it though 'cus its too Game Cube like. but if that is it, then its still dope. I give it a 9.8 outta 10.0. ALOT better than the first photos we saw.

It's odd looking, but no doubt it will make for interesting gaming. I can't really comment on it too much without using it, but I hope there will be a "normal" style controller as well, if it's not so easy to use, but I think Nintendo will try to make it as user friendly as possible.

i would take the Hello kitty thingie if it was cheaper.

im just so damned broke.

As it would be merchandise of a famous brand it would be more expensive than the normal version.

A 13 Year old boy wants a pink kitty controller?...

Yeah, nothing wrong with pink basically. Kitty is just so cute.

Another thing.
Look at what I found on the internet.
A cool new version of the Revolution controller.

thats cool and old schoolish. keepin' it real, son!

I found another pic...
Also the almighty Bruce Lee would use the nunchuck controller.

thats awesome and yes i would take a pink controller in a heartbeat.

To be honest, I'm a bit skeptical about the "remote style" controller, but the addons make it look more promising. Especially that wavebird mock-up.

Nintendo learned from the rumble pack apparently and got patents for their design. I like the idea of Sony and Microsoft staying to traditional gaming anyway.
I'm guessing for emulation, Nintendo will make controller addons out of the casings on previous system controllers,
