So, is this worth it?

In Modern Systems

Im looking to pick up a gamecube, mainly for the new Zelda game. I also love those damned sonic games too... anyways, my pawn shop is selling a good condition black Gamecube, with all Hookups and one controller. They have it listed for $ 80.00 I have 60.00 now and just wondering if it is worth the money. im pretty sure t is, but im just checking. I just missed a deal; my friend was selling a GC, wireless controller, normal controller,RF Hookup, all other wires, and 7 games for 200.00. but i didnt have Jackall money so im thinking of buying the 80.00 one.

(all prices are Canadian)

I think you can pick up a new 'Cube for something like $129 Canadian with a game, and a warranty. if I were you, that's the route I'd go. buying used disc-based consoles is always a little sketchy...

Just keep in mind that the $80 doesn't come with a game, unless you forgot to metion that. so you'll have to add at least another $20 on to that.

Cubes new are under $100 US and used ones from a store (ebgames, etc.) are like $69 I think. I'd check a couple on ebay and offer what they are getting.

I'll probably get one pretty soon and I might actually buy it new since there isn't much price difference.

You should definitely get one soon, and as Luke said, better buy it new. They are so cheap these days and you get a warranty.

Or you wait longer.
Perhaps there's a Gamecube bundle with the Twilight Princess in it.

If you have a local GameCrazy, (they are in Hollywood Video), you should get one there. You can get a warrenty, and get 12 free rentals.

The only strictly-video game place i have here is a small ebgames that is like 10' x 10'. I think the used ones there have a 100 % gaurentee on them. Ill probably get one there, instead of the pawn shop. I dont think i could wait until twilight princess comes out!! I need to play some sonic.. Thats the first game i get sonic DX. I cant find work to get mre money, so ill just wait for my damn allowances to add up to enough.

If you are a patient person and a true nintendo follower that plans to get the Rev, just wait. Remember that the Rev will play old games including GCN ones.

the game comes out 1 yr before the Rev so it's not THAT long a wait. Save your money, you will just le go of the GCN when the Rev comes out. Nothing special came from the GCN any way

I wasnt aware that the rev was backwards compatible!

First, the PS3, and Xbox 360 will probably be around 300 dollars. Nintendo saiud that they want to make the Rev as cheap as possable. A lot of people are saying 200 dollars for the Rev. Also, I want to get every Nintendo system, but I just don't want to spend money on Virtual Boy, or N64 DD, etc.

first of all, Twilight Princess is coming out this fall/winter.

Revolution is currently slated for March - Summer of '06

a lot less than a year.

what the hell does GCN stand for? GameCube Nintendo? GC, or NGC...

the PS3 is expected to cost $500 USD, and the Xbox 360, since MS can afford to lose money on the hardware in order to make it back on software sales, is predicted to be between $299, and $360

Twight Pricess is probably coming out November 1, or 2. (Gamestop, and Ebgames has that as their date) Also, the Rev is not coming out in March. Nintendo said that they will show almost everything at E3 2006.

I'd love to find a Virtual Boy and a N64 DD in Japan. I'll probably browse around yahoo auctions a lot, maybe I run into a cheap deal or two.

360$ would be an appropriate price for the XBox360...
I think Revolution could be somewhat around 249 at the beginning. Just an intuition, though.

Dude I got mine on July 9th for 59.99 in GOOD condition. Nothing wrong at all with it.... It was from EB Games.

Thanks, but I can picture you buiying it for 30, and selling it for 60 . (just joking) Thanks.

ive always found it better to buy my consoles brand new and get the games used. u can always clean the games but if the console is beyond cleaning the lens, u hav to pay some serious money to get it fixed. and ps3 is going to be $500 US but it will be worth it...

I have got my GameCube and Sega Saturn second hand and they worked perfectly. $500 is still a hell of a lot, but it's probably the least likely of the next gen consoles i'm going to get.

I know you can get good consoles second hand but ive found it better to just dish out the extra cash even if its just for the warranty. the PS3 is supposedly better than almost any Super Computer. but who knows it could be a dud.

Ah, I see wht you mean. I would also pay out the extra cash for a new console (if I could afford it)
As for the PS3, it could be better (tecnologically) but at the end of the day i'm a Nintendo fan boy and most probably end up getting the Revolution.

now im not saying anything bad about NES i play mine and my NES ROMs for it anytime but i also enjoy the newer games for ps2

Its kind of hard for me to "dish out" the extra cash when i hardly have enough for a used one. And i doubt i will eer buy a PS2 or a PS 3. If i ever get my hands on 500 spare $, i wont spend it on a product made by sony.

u dont like sony? they are my favorite computer company besides nintendo of course but nintendo doesnt make headphones and cds players now do they?

i know sega made a CD player, the Sega Genesis CDX can be used as a CD player, so u like Sega now don't U?

first off i liked sega to begin with. and second sony is the BEST at headphones and cd players. well in my opinion anyway.

I don't like Sony either. I'm not saying they don't make good games or anything, but I just don't like them. (don't want to get into it)

Fair play, I think it's safe to say many users of this site like newer games as well (maybe not the PS2)
As for me, I don't particually like sony (gaming wise) but I won't get into it. I suppose the CD players and heaphones are good though.

Let's think way back...

Back when Sony first started exporting products to North America...

What market were they in?

Sony has always made cheap products for the average consumer. They were successful in the early days because they balanced price, with quality, Not the best products out there, but considering the price, they were acceptable.

Let's flash forward to now...

Sony products cost an arm and TWO legs, but guess what fanboys...

The quality has fallen from when they were affordable. Now they rely on the name they made for themselves in the past.

Let's just look at the game consoles alone...

PS1: overheats, and needs to be played upside-down

PS2: DISC READ ERROR, everyone that had one in the early days should understand that.

PS2 slim: Overheats when playing very graphically stressing games.

PSP: Square button, dead pixels, UMD popping out of the console. (most issues seem remedied, but I still don't like the idea of a disc in a portable)

In closing, No, Sony is not THE BEST at anything... they produce cheap consumer electronics, and charge a whole lot for them because they know retarded fanboys will buy it for the name alone.

$500 would be suicide for sony lol. Pretty much every console launched over 299 has failed (3do, saturn, neo geo). I think the price of the ps3 will be set by what the xbox 360 comes out as.

Lol i remember a couple of months after I bought it my v1 ps2 it went dead, i just about went bezerk.

Like the PS2? did it fail?

Also, the Saturn was quite a success in Japan, and would have been more-so here as well, if not for that dumbass Bernie Stolar... "RPGs won't sell in the american market" "Americans want 3D games!" Yes, he is responsibe for Sega failing...

Also, I wouldn't consider the Neo Geo a failure at all... Unless of course you can name another console that has had a 13 year run... and still has a very loyal following.

I don't think the PS3 will fail (as much as I wish it would...) fanboys will buy the PS3 because of that completely bogus KillZone trailer that was shown at E3. I say it's Bogus because nVidia even came out and said that Sony didn't have their graphics chip at that time. so that was entirely pre-rendered, as was everything else shown at E3 from Sony.

Yes, i did just get owned pretty bad , but i was talking about in America where ps2 was launched for 299. Also, one of the reasons saturn didn't sell very well here was because it was 399 while the ps1 was 299. And you are correct neo geo wasn't a faliure just super expensive.

Yeah, thats because they are focused on GAMING. and some people complain that gamecube doesnt play DVD's or CD's, But compare the loading time on gamecube, compared to the PS2's loading time. Just as luke said, there will always be the fanboys buying the sony products so the can buy grand theft auto games and run around a murder people for no reason, eventually turning them into a phsycopathic murderer.
