NROM/UNROM Dev Board + misc

In Hardware

I happened to stumble across this forum and it looked like a nice place to talk about NES programming and mods, so I thought I'd post some of the stuff I did, in case it's of any interest or use to folks.

.

, which is probably just useful to me for figuring which can run on a dev cart, but maybe someone else can use it for something too.

, which started as a breadboard version of an NROM cart, but then turned into UNROM a couple of chips later. Anyone else not easily able to solder might be interested in this one.

, which basically makes the previous project obsolete.

And I guess a post about Nintendo mods wouldn't be complete without LEDs being involved. So here's my .

Comments/questions/suggestions are welcome!

Welcome to the forums.

That SMB comparison is great. Good read.

I'm not that much into mods (because I don't know anything when it comes to electronics and stuff

Enjoy your stay.

Welcome to Nesfiles! I also thought the SMB comparison was a great read! Please stay around and post don't run off now!

A winner is you for joining, and for the links to all those mods and otherwise.
Unforunately i'm awful at modding things, but as Manuel said, it's nice to see pictures. So post more.

Hey FyberOptic, how's it? I saw your posts about this stuff over at NesDev. Pretty cool stuff. I'm still not sure how you keep those wires together. Maybe that bright LED helps you see better ;) Good stuff man.

This place seems to be pretty hoppin', with so many replies already!

Glad you folks liked the links. I always enjoy seeing projects and stuff other people do, even if I'm not necessarily capable of doing them myself at the time, so I thought it'd be nice to share some of my own.

And to be perfectly honest, even though I've always been a tinkerer, it's only been in the last few months that I got into the nitty gritty details of understanding how electronics and things like circuit logic and address lines and all that work. Before that, I've had plenty of failed "experiments" over the years, so I know how it can be. hehe.

Also, it's cool to see someone from NESDev here as well. I was wondering if there might be anyone who frequents both places. And to answer your question, Roth, I was afraid the whole time that I'd yank something loose by accident and have to start all over! The wire I used on the PRG NES ROM (the red and black wires) was a bit thick, so it was hard to get it to stick down in the breadboard securely. One of the data lines kept popping loose early on, making me think I had done something wrong.

This has all been leading up to a couple of other neat and possibly unique project ideas, so I'll make sure to post'em whenever I get to that point. Still a few more parts to get, though. Shipping costs aren't a friend of the hobbyist.

Welcome to the NES Files, and, very cool stuff! I have the SMB arcade NES ROM and the SMB cart, and hadn't noticed the color differences until now. Very subtle indeed, until you put them side by side.
A lot of that stuff is over my head also, but I must say it all looks great. I really liked the LED blue light--red and green is getting very boring!

Hey, nice mods there FyberOptic! And welcome to the forums.

Nice to see new mods for that thing. I hope to see more mods come this way in the near future...

BTW, I know I am late in responding but I was moving for the last month or two and could'nt check the forums. I just had to welcome Fyber.
