NES Acting Up

In Hardware

Ok i was inspired to take my NES out for the first time in ages b/c of this website. I take it out and i get the old blinking red light. The screen flashes from grey to black. I clean my game and then i remove the top half of the console to clean it. I go to plug it in w/o the top half on and it works so i go and put all the screws and the top back on. I then plug it in and get the blinking red light. Any suggestions?

The first suggestion is: try it with a Game Genie.

Second suggestion: If the GG doesn't help it work (which it should), clip the lock-out chip. If your pins are clean and your games are clean, it'll play games like they're brand new!

Yeah I tried my game genie and that didnt work so onto plan C.

All right i cliped the lockout chip and the fixed the blinking prob. but the screen is just plain grey now. The GG didnt wokr either.

Are you 100% sure that your pin connectors (inside the NES) are clean? If not, try cleaning those. If you've already done that, before purchasing another 72-pin connector, you can try raising the bottom pins up.

Alot of people when they're done playing a game just leave the game inside, pushed down. This eventually makes the copper pins positioned further away from the game's pins, making the connection that much more weak. You can take a small screwdriver to each pin, and GENTLY raise each one. If you raise them too much, it will be hard to get the games in and out of the console.

If that doesn't work, either get a new 72-pin connector, or get one of the new refurbished NESs (I believe you started a topic about the guy on eBay).

Hope this helps!

Well it just looks lie ill have to buy a new NES, I've cleaned it several times. Thanks for your help guys. As for the ebay guy thread, I dont remember starting it. And i just dont feel like taking my NES apart again. But thanks again guys.

Alright man, that's cool.

After checking out the threads more, I noticed it was murder_killz that started the aforementioned topic, not you. Sorry about the mix-up.

The what topic?

EDIT: Nevermind, the guy with good deals on NES stuff. Sorry, I forgot. you should check him out for a new system, he's got referbished ones that play like new for like, 50 bucks (USD) w/ 20 bucks shipping and he sounds like he's not out to rip ppl off like ALOT of the ppl selling NES stuff on ebay. my friend got Zelda II: The Adventure of Link off ebay and the person said "Cart. ONLY" my friend was like whatever and got it for 5 bucks with 10 shipping (shipping on ebay SUCKS) anyways when he got it the frickin' micro chips inside the Cart. were taken out, it was just a chunk of plastic that said The Legend of Link on it. So becarefull with other ppl but that one guy isnt a scam, he's cool.
